Really enjoyed Philadanco The versatility in the dance types was impressive. ..from sensuous to totally energentic! I brought a friend, who has not seen many dance recitals. and she loved it, too.
The thing I liked about this most is how JB's music was blended in with so many diverse genres from around the world. The dancers talents and skills were also diverse. The music mixology was near impeccable. Great event.
Great storytelling through many forms of dance! Soak in the beautiful and athletic movements by world class dancers who clearly love what they do. Enjoy!
What a great way to introduce school age children to James Brown and the music of this day. My 10 year old loved the music and the dancing. I insisted that he read the program after we left. I'm sure he know has a pretty good idea of who James Brown was.
The Phildanco gives a wonderful dance performance, it catches the greatness of James Brown music as well as he's showmanship. And the way they do it is fantastic, it's sound effects, great music, dynamic sound landscape. But it's the dancers and costumes that does it - they are world class good!
We totally enjoyed the show. Great timing, outstanding talents with fast and precise movements. Would love to see more of this group and to see this show again. This was a very fitting tribute to James Brown; he would definitely be proud!!!!.
The first number, Gatekeepers, was my favorite overall. Those swirly pink dresses, and the men in the same shade of deep pink w/red pants looked great. The music and choreography were so fluid, powerful, and creative. Second favorite was several portions of the Moan section, although didn't like the music as much. Also some of the costumes were too dark; not enough contrast with the black curtain. The last portion, with various royal blue/gray outfits, was better.
