The entire show was an encounter to remember. Storm is by nature an entertainer's entertainer and the Portland Symphony was the perfect accompaniment to the huge voice and mega talent of Storm Large. The entire family is looking forward to a reuniting of this dynamic duo onstage again.
Both Storm and the Symphony were excellent. The time just flew by. Some of her songs were uneven, she fiddled with her dress, and the sound was a little uneven (better when she moved closer to the mic for a richer, warmer sound filling the hall. All of these things would have been smoothed out with a second performance instead of a one night "make it or break it show." Those small things aside - it was a wonderful, wonderful event. Storm is very present and authentic with both the audience and the symphony. The whole event is engaging to experience. We will be first in line to buy tickets to the next one!
It was a blast to watch and listen to Storm with the Oregon Symphony. She has a great singing voice, and I love how she keeps you entertained between songs :).
Storm's expressive performance hit the target like Cupid's arrow, if that dart were steel-tipped and shot from a crossbow. Her song selection encompassed a satisfying variety of emotional nuances on the topic of love--satisfying, yet still somehow leaving us yearning for more. The unique arrangement of Cole Porter's "Under My Skin" gave me shivers but my favorite moments were the duets. The combination of Storm's expressively wide vocal range with China Forbes' depth gave the Willy Nelson song an achingly robust resonance. Holcombe Waller's voice blends so well with Storm's that if they sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" together, I'd be transported. They happened to pick two of my favorite tunes: "Unchained Melody" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" (encore).
I just love Storm Large. My daughter was visiting last summer and we all went to "Crazy Enough". Better than anything I have ever seen in New York or London. I was fortunate enough to see her at the Aladdin in December. My daughter felt so bad she was going to be missing out seeing her perform with the symphony that I flew her from Dallas Texas for it, as her Christmas present. We all thought her performance was outstanding. She is the whole package. Beauty, voice, and a wonderful stage presence. If she didn't have such a incredible voice she would make a wonderful stand up comic. I wish her continued success, and hope I will make it to as many performances in Portland as I can. We are so fortunate to have such a talent in our town. Lucky, lucky us!
Storm Large performing with the Oregon Symphony???? Have to admit, it was a stretch to imagine it, after seeing "Crazy Enough" a few times! She was magnificient! Hopefully that will not be the last time we see Storm performing with the Symphony!
Storm Large and the Symphony? Is that an oxymoron? Not at all! And even though she promised the peeps at the Schnitz not to swear, (only three little slips) or get too raunchy, she still brought down the house the only way Storm knows how: She had everyone laughing and crying all at the same time.
I learned to start appreciating the talent in the Rock genre with Rock Star INXS. Appreciated it more watching Storm in Rock Star Supernova. So, I knew she could sing and was happy to hear more of her vocals in the concert tonight. Growing up in the 40/50's I can only say I will NEVER listen to Cole Porter and Grease the same way again!
This was my first Storm Large concert and my daughter's 2nd concert. I was pleasantly surprised, not sure if I would enjoy the concert. However, after the first or second songs, I was hooked...Storm's voice was beautiful...and the orchestral background music was wonderful. I enjoyed every minute of the concert....Storm Large is heartwarming, funny and honest....Loved it! We hope to see her again in the future....Thanks for a wonderful concert.
