Great performance - poor sound quality
by jambro on 1/20/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - AshevilleCapathia, her singers and the ASO gave wonderful performances, very dynamic and professional. The problem for me was with the audio mixing and amplification. When both the orchestra and Capathia reached crescendos, the sound became muddled, distorted and way too loud blasting out from a large pair of speakers high above the stage. At times her voice was buried by the overpowering orchestra. This is not an orchestra problem. It is a mixing board problem. This was uncomfortable for me and destroyed what could have been great moments in the performance. When she sang quieter songs with more gentle accompaniment you could really appreciate the complexity and beauty of her voice. I just wish there had been more of those moments. I am not used to hearing an orchestra heavily amplified, if at all. Is it assumed that we all suffer hearing loss?
