Ambivalent Attendee
by Anonymous on 10/11/10Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center - MobileTicketmaster info stated the top price ticket purchasers would be served champagne and would be able to listen at 7 pm to Nat Adderley talk about his work. The latter did not happen and we were disappointed. Instead we waited for an hour and a half for the show to begin at about 8:30 pm because the piano needed tuning. That noise, all by itself, was really awful to listen to. We really enjoyed Theodore Arthur and his group. My husband and I independently thought Sandra Booker had a great voice and had great individuals in her backup band but we thought she insulted us by thinking her own compositions were worth sharing with an audience. We were just too tired to enjoy the Nat Adderley, Jr. quintet. Since we waited till after 10:30 for them to perform, more than two and one half hours after the supposed start time, we were not happy the group seemed to first hang back and then sauntered over to and seemed to need some more prompting to go up on the stage to begin their set. The audience was very supportive and generous and I hope future offerings will be not again be so poorly presented.
