Menopause The Musical on Tour
There are ch-ch-changes of life aplenty in Menopause The Musical, the hit Off-Broadway production (2002-06) that has sold more than 15 million tickets since its 2001 debut. Written by Jeanie Linders, Menopause rejiggers two dozen hit songs from the ‘50s through the '80s to talk to women — and the men who love but may not completely understand them — about food cravings, hot flashes, memory lapses, night sweats, the lure of cosmetic surgery and other common responses to the natural aging process. The longest-running scripted musical in Las Vegas history, Menopause is playing at Harrah's Cabaret and around North America on the latest legs of a tour that has included some 500 cities worldwide. Call its appeal "half-universal" and join Menopause's celebration — with laughter and sisterhood — of something every woman may eventually experience.
About Menopause The Musical
A Professional Woman, an Earth Mother, an Iowa Housewife and a Soap Star meet in Bloomingdale's lingerie department. So begins Menopause The Musical, which quickly amps up into a series of rollicking rewrites of familiar pop hits: "Chain of Fools" becomes "Change of Life," "Staying Alive" becomes "Staying Awake," "Night Fever" become "Night Sweating" and "My Guy" becomes "My Thighs." The music is nostalgic and the wordplay never less than clever. ''Nothing I can do 'cause it sticks like glue — to my thighs,'' sings the Iowa Housewife. ''No matter what I eat, there's always cellulite — on my thighs.''
While the four women come from vastly different backgrounds, they share a single inescapable characteristic: All are going through menopause. In addition to common observations on appetites ("Looking for Food in All the Wrong Places") and energy lapses ("Puff, My God I'm Draggin'"), Menopause goes there with slightly edgy observations on vibrators ("Only You") and antidepressants ("My doctor prescribed a pill to control my urge to kill").
Menopause The Musical provides a rare opportunity to see older female actors in starring roles discussing menopause publicly. It also recognizes, represents and celebrates female audience members as never before, and that's one change long overdue.
Very funny as well as realistic summary of menopause acted out in a comedic way
I'm one who loves musicals and was very much looking forward to seeing this! Two of the four leads were outstanding. The other two might have been good but their voices weren't as strong and the sound techs didn't do them any favours. It was difficult to hear them, so much of their content was lost. The lighting techs also seemed to be struggling, off in terms of both timing and positioning. As for the show itself, it was good but I don't feel compelled to go and see it again. I prefer something with a storyline as opposed to a series of popular songs reworded to highlight menopause. There were some clever parts and there were a whole lot of parts that were fine. I wish I could say that I loved it. I wanted to love it. I just didn't.
It was a fun experience for my mom and aunt. I watched this show 10 years ago, and for this time, actresses had changed, stage had changed, everything still great and even better. Thanks, my party had a fabulous time. ??
Great show, the actresses were spot on with facial expressions, choreography, voice pitch, etc. The technical team did a great job. The actresses have great voices and work the crowd. Funny show, great entertainment.
My friends and I laughed the entire show. This was not what I had expected but ended up being way better. The singing, acting and overall talent of this show was fantastic. Not only is it relatable, but the delivery of it was engaging. The actresses did a phenomenal job without skipping a beat. I highly recommend this for anyone over the age of 15 female and male! There was a range of ages there and many male and females too. So happy I was able to experience this.
This is absolutely marvelous. I laughed so hard my jaw hurt the next day. So funny, so exactly correct. It’s something all women go through and we had a marvelous time laughing.
"Musical"is a great description. The show was filled with different lyrics to songs that we all know. Very funny show, I suppose because it is was all true. The acting and vocals were all spectacular. I am happy that the show is performed in a small venue, we were fortunate to sit in the front row, but it seemed that there is not a bad seat in the house.
We had such a fun time watching the performers. All the old music with a menopause theme made us laugh. The singing was GREAT!
Amazing performances that honor the true stages of menopause. Hilarious! These ladies don’t miss a beat. I took my mother last year for her birthday and she asked to go again this year….so we did! I understand why this is the longest running musical in Las Vegas. Don’t miss.
Loved, Loved, Loved the show Menopause the Musical! It was well done with songs we all know! My husband even enjoyed it and now has a new found respect! LOL The only negative was with the venue...the drinks were soooo expensive and the wait staff should have come before the show but didn't until after it already started.
