Good show, horrible accoustics and sounds. Really really bad.
Kermit Ruffins has incredible talent and mastery of the trumpet voice. The performance was great. My only regret was buying the VIP tickets. They packed the VIP section so tight that people were literally arguing over elbow space. Trying to eat while being so squished was a challenge. The general admission seats were still very good and looked like they had room and individual tables. I wouldn't purchase VIP tickets at Sony Hall again.
I see Kermit & the BBQ Swingers in New Orleans every year. Sometimes a band comes to Boston and they're just not as good as they are in their home town-not the case this time! They were So GREAT! Kermit is fantastic on the horn and his keyboard player is freekin' amazing!!!! I loved the music selections and I felt like I was listening to them at the Blue Nile on Frenchman Street. The whole band was great and the female vocalist who sang 3 songs is truly amazing. I really enjoyed the opening band Flow Tribe-also from NOLA. My only disappointment is that they were on the same time as a big PATS game and my husband had enough by midnight and we left a little early. It was so hard to miss the last few songs-I bet they were amazing. Thought Kermit always performed early...he wasn't on until 10:30 on a Sunday-too late for us! We'll definitely see them again the next time they come to Boston-one of my best concerts!
Put on a great show!! Signed autographs after too!
I love Nola. The food, the place, the culture, and especially the music. I travel to New Orleans every year for pure enjoyment. With Mardis Gras approaching and I being a big anniversary with my boyfriend, I purchased these tickets expecting nothing but a New Orleans good time. The show was very disappointing. So many covers....SO many. If I wanted to hear black eyes peas - tonights going to be a good night I certainly wouldn't have paid to see Kermitt. That was one example of many covers...Simply put, I assumed this would be a more traditional Nola inspired show. Howard theatre was fantastic! I would Absolutely go back, Great drink prices and good service. The band after Kermitt was much more fun :) everyone was on the floor dancing and havin' a ball, the only problem was that most people left right after Kermitt expecting for that to be the end... Kermitt is talented and it was an okay show but the energy expected just wasn't there. Next time he comes to town I won't be purchasing tickets.
They say home is where your heart is, but in 1999 this DC girl fell in love with New Orleans and its had my heart since. Great performance by all artists. The thing about the spirit and the people of New Orleans they are resilient and know how to get a party started. Even though I'm thousands of miles away for one night I felt like I was back home.
Big Sam's Funky Nation was fantastic but Kermit Ruffins was...not so great. Pretty much butchered every song he did. I wish someone would tell him he is a much better horn player than singer. The venue looked great, bathrooms are a little limited but I would definitely go to an event here again.
Wasn't quite sure what this new location would be like but it's great! They have done a great job converting to a music venue and we were on the local level open standing area. It's was perfect for this event and wasn't too crowded which was a pity and they could have fitted in many more. However, we weren't complaining because it was easy to get drinks from the open bar ... or the cocktail waitresses! Kermit was great and Funky Nation did a great warm up.
what a terrific show. a delight to be in the newly renovated theatre. nice sound, great crowd, and talented musicians. TONS of fun.
