“Mr Sandoval's Playing is Spectacular”? New York Times
“ He's one of the Best “? Dizzy Gillespie
6 Time Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter ARTURO SANDOVAL, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, is touring Australia in June 2013. Cuban-born Sandoval has evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.
A subject of a movie based on his life, “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia, Sandoval’s virtuoso technical ability or his specialty in high notes gives us the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of his music, through his compositions from the most straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz or classical. He is recognised as one of the most brilliant, multifaceted and renowned musicians of our time.
Arturo Sandoval’s versatility can be heard on recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Bill Conti and Stan Getz to John Williams and the Boston Pops, and in the Super Bowl with Tony Bennet and Patti LaBelle plus Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys amongst many others. Arturo Sandoval is truly a prominent and legendary musician.

Arturo’s endurance was really low. He really only played a few songs and told a bunch of jokes for filler, and sang way too much— especially scat, bee do bop bada isn’t what I payed to listen to. Even only playing a few songs, his lips were shot and his tone was bad by the end of the relatively short performance.
What a great band and show! Would pay to see again!
Probably the best Jazz Ensemble and specifically Arturo Sandoval - my wife and I have every seen and we have followed the Jazz Scene for many years.
Arturo and his band gave us an unforgettable experience. He can play anything and then he has a sextet that sets the stage on fire. 2 hours of non stop great music. We were all captivated.
This was a wonderful and memorable concert. Arturo is a consummate musician but also a kind person. The repertoire was varied and provided opportunities for the talented band to shine. Great to see an older performer who still has his edge. We were pleased that we purchased tickets in the front orchestra section. We've been in the back orchestra for other shows at the Rialto and felt as though we were sliding forward. Spending the $ to get better seats paid off.
One of the best performances I've seen in years! Even at this stage in his career, his, tone, charisma and chops are still top notch! See a living legend while you can- you won't regret it! His banter between some selections were heartwarming and sometimes just outright hilarious!
I am a lifelong jazz fan, so I knew of Arturo, but this showed me I did not know enough about his versality as a musician and as a performer. Frankly, he is amazing at his age, or any age.
An amazing show of high level music. Arturo is a high energy, multi talented musician. The band was fabulous, the music was great. My husband & I had a wonderful time. The concert was a two hour delight. Loved it!!!
BergenPAC is a great venue. But Arturo and his band wer amazing, disappointed (as was he) that the house wasn't full but he got us going ! High energy with extremely talented and extended soloing from his band. Superior percussion, excellent fast duel riffing between trumpet and sax. Overall a very very entertaining show. Brought my young adults kids to remind them how great it is to see actual musicians at the top of their game. Sandoval himself is a funny, appreciative, motivating stage presence and did a great job with with this great band.
