Villanova Wildcats Men's Basketball History
Villanova University first fielded a men's basketball team in 1921, and eventually became a mainstay in Philadelphia-area college hoops. The program took off in the 1980 after joining the Big East Conference, which for years became the premier league in the sport. In 1985 under coach Rollie Massimino, the Wildcats, led by Ed Pinckney and Dwayne McClain, made the Final Four and held off reigning champion Georgetown to win the national championship. Villanova was an 8 seed in that tournament, which is still the record for the lowest seed ever to win the title.
In 2013, the "new" Big East was born after multiple teams left the conference. Villanova remained, and has dominated both Philadelphia-area basketball and the Big East in recent years. The Wildcats, under coach Jay Wright, won the Big East tournament in 2017, 2018 and 2019, and the regular season conference title in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
They again shocked the world in 2016, when Kris Jenkins made a game-winning three-pointer to give the Cats a 77-74 victory over North Carolina to garner their second national championship. The Wildcats' third title run was more dominant, with Villanova winning each game in the 2018 NCAA tournament by at least 12 points, including a 79-62 beatdown of Michigan in the final. The team is currently coached by Kyle Neptune.

Villanova Wildcats at Finneran Pavilion
The Villanova Wildcats play at the William B. Finneran Pavilion, which originally opened in 1986 but was completely renovated during the 2017-18 season, and currently seats 6,500. However, the 20,478-seat Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, home of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, hosts several important Villanova home games each season. It was the full-time home for the Cats during the Pavilion renovation.
Tickets for the Villanova Wildcats' 2024–25 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster.

Had a great time at the game easy in out of the arena seats where good game was great
Great game, great venue will definitely be back for future games
Seats were close to court but we were constantly inconvenienced by ESPN and event staff using the row as a go between during the games.
First, i thought that the overall experience would be more given it was a Tribute event. The first game was empty so there was no thrill of a game either or crowd atmosphere. Local teams would have been more of a draw. Second game was good but again you wouldnt know you were at any particular event. You are trapped for the day at the over priced food.... $48 for a pizza. $8 for a brownie or icecream each... i asked for a cup of water to take an aspirin towards the end and the woman told me no. I had 6 kids with me and had already spent almost $200 on drinks, lunch and snacks. I wont go again, i will just give a donation to the foundation rather than Prudential center.
The event was well organized and offered a few events for children to engage in including VR, jenga, basketball throws etc! Lines were not long and everyone was friendly!
Both games were fun to watch. And since there were two games, there was not a sense of urgency and chaos entering the arena. I was able to bring my 82 year old dad and had floor seating behind the basket. Lots of families at this event.
Had a great time at the game. Seats in Section 21 Row 16 were very good.
All good except parking. I paid for yellow lot. Website directions were AWEFUL. Had to pay again for another lot because of the directions. Never found the lot I paid for. Most unhappy w that. Wasted $26
Great first game: Villanova vs. Notre Dame; 2nd game Pitt vs. Penn State was a poor match-up. Easy drive from east-mid PA. Ample and reasonable nearby parking. Nice facility and food choices but high prices. Good view even though seats behind basket. Seats were cushioned but tight (felt like I was in middle seat on an airplane & I am medium height and weight). Center video screen too small to see well. Go to see your favorite team but not a favored venue for me. .
It was a good place to see a game, concession stands were terrible.
