The Lemon Twigs in Concert
It's not necessarily obvious that the Lemon Twigs hail from modern-day Long Island. The rock band, led by brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, are a seamless fit with any record collection full of adventurous 1960s and '70s music—specifically, Todd Rundgren's kaleidoscopic pop; the psychedelic sounds of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd; Big Star's well-wrought power pop; and Elton John's soulful, bluesy piano balladry. Appropriately, the brothers' stage looks are also retro-leaning, from their '70s teen heartthrob shaggy haircuts on down to clothing such as expertly flared jeans.
The Lemon Twigs' sophomore effort, an elaborate concept album titled ‘Go to School,' exudes even greater ambitions. Inspired by Stephen Sondheim, the album boasts ornate arrangements incorporating elements such as peppy horns, lush strings, and jagged electric guitars. Plot-wise, ‘Go to School' follows a teenaged chimpanzee named Shane who's struggling to come to terms with his simian nature because his human parents brought him up as a human. None other than Rundgren himself portrays the dad, while the D'Addario brothers' mom, Susan Hall, vocalizes the parts sung by the chimp's mom.?
The rock opera format is a natural for the siblings. Both are actors who have performed on Broadway—Brian was in ‘Les Misérables' and also portrayed the adorable, colorful fish Flounder in the musical version of ‘The Little Mermaid'—while Michael had a prominent role in the 2012 Chris Pine movie ‘People Like Us.' The brothers' father, a songwriter named Ronnie D'Addario, also has extensive music industry experience.?
After the brothers decided to start taking music more seriously in 2014, they found an early champion in Foxygen's Jonathan Rado, a kindred musical spirit who produced the Lemon Twigs' debut album, 2016's ‘Go Hollywood.' From there, it's been nothing but forward momentum, with performances on late-night TV (including on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon"), major festival appearances (e.g., Coachella, Glastonbury), and even a big opening gig for Arctic Monkeys.
These guys don't only harmonize like no else out there, they rock as well. Really fun show!
This is the second time we have seen The Lemon Twigs and the show did not disappoint. So many great songs and their catalogue keeps growing. We are looking forward to the next opportunity to see them.
I had so much fun. The French fries at The Regent Theater were pretty good. That staff was nice. I was in the front row between Brian and Micheal and I got some sick photos. And I was able to get both set lists, which was awesome. They were so entertaining and you could definitely see that the boys absolutely love what they do. I definitely recommended seeing them at least once.
The Lemon Twigs never disappoint. A High energy, very entertaining show.
The Lemon Twigs concert was awesome! The venue was perfect with a great sound system and excellent visibility of the band/stage. The sound mix was perfect. It was comfortable with a nice bar and a convenient merch table. The band itself is simply incredible with gorgeous vocals/harmonies and superb musicianship! They performed wonderful, original songs and a couple choice covers. My wife and I were able to talk with Brian and Michael after the show. They are the nicest, coolest guys! We were able to get pictures and autographs. These brothers are very talented songwriters, musicians and performers. Their band was also incredible. We wish them all the success and good fortune that they deserve!
I’ve seen them twice and it’s amazing every time they are a MUST see band. They are my favorite band their energy is the best
I had a good time!! Such an amazing and cool band! Been waiting since 2018 for seeing them. And this one being my first time it’s was absolutely stunning! Can’t wait to see them again soon<3
The Twigs were great, Josephine Network the opening group was a fun time She shreds venue was clean organized and crowd was also great. Amazing show
Super talented brothers that always put on a fantastic show. I’m taking one point away as something was a little off with their energy, and honestly while their new support band is skillful their charisma leaves something to be desired. Luckily the brothers have enough charm to overcome that. I recommend checking them out if you haven’t already. Melodic and quirky.
The Lemon Twigs are extremely talented and amazing songwriters that blew the doors off of the Bowery Ballroom!!!! I recommend everyone to buy their albums and experience them live!!!! Such a beautiful experience that I can’t stop reliving in my mind!!! Thank you Brian, Michael and the band!!!!
