Authentic Motown Brings Back Memories
by WJC3 on 6/3/24The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red BankI had never heard of this band and took a chance on them and they far exceeded my expectations. We have been getting our Motown “live” fix every year from the local band “Motor City Revue” and they are still excellent. But “that Motown band” also did a fantastic job of recreating the Motown sound note for note just like Motor City Revue but they went further with a vocalist who sounded like David Ruffin of the Temptations and the two ladies both sounded like Diana Ross and other Motown lady lead singers. Their two saxophones did a great job of recreating that Motown background sound and did their lead licks flawlessly. I loved the set list which included all my favorite Motown hits. They also brought out another singer twice and he also had a great R&B soul voice as well and he was from the Delfonics. I have to say the bongo player totally differentiated himself and added a lot of great background percussion and showmanship. This band was extremely tight and delivered each hit perfectly. Our only complaint was we could barely hear Nathia in the first half of the show but after the intermission someone told the sound guys to turn her mic ?? up. They did and it was much easier to hear the rest of the show. Any fan of Motown music will love this show.
