Everything about this show is phenomenal from the actors, singing, dancing and set.
Mary Poppins was brilliantly cast and the entire show was so well done; it was a transformative experience. The SuperCalifragilistic song with the entire cast was awesome and the chimney sweeps tap dancing on the roof was jaw-dropping and inspiring. I could have watched the entire performance again; I did not want it to end.
Mary Poppins at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is quite an experience! The opening night show was fantastic and difficult to believe it was being watched in Florida, and not on Broadway. The actors, from Mary (Melissa Whitworth) and Bert (Adam Biner), to the extremely talented young actors playing Michael Banks (Nate Colton) and Jane Banks (Stella Macey), the Slow Burn Theater Company nailed it. It was announced that more than 30 actors were involved on stage, with a huge number of crew behind the scenes. It was, for sure, a major production. I can't wait to see what else Slow Burn puts on. Mary Poppins is an amazing spectacle. If you can get a ticket, get it!
Great production and phenomenal actors and actresses
Slow Burn Theater Co.’s rendition of Mary Poppins is a must needed reminder that local theater productions can give the same joy and magic as a Broadway. I was able to attend the show on Saturday, March 25, at 1pm which was their very first performance. I have to say that everyone was so good that you would believe that they have been practicing for months. They only real problem with the show was the time of the set breakdown. There was times in the play were the actors would be playing out a scene but the background would not be in place yet. It did not detract from the overall production but it happened enough times for it to be a continuous mistake. The play is pretty long 2hrs and 45 minutes. I think that it would keep the attention of young kids but buying snacks during intermission might be necessary.
The musical suffered from the lighting and directing. The performance of the actors was outstanding but combinations of both don't intermingle.
You mustbsee Mary Poppins!!! Broadway worthy! As a former New Yorker, for the last ten years I having been seeing shows that fall short of Broadway excellence but not Mary Poppins! What an imcredible show, cast, sound, light, special effecta and directing! Bravo to everyone involved!
I have to say, this was a gem that I didn't expect. I mean, we all love Mary Poppins, but sometimes the plays can be a little... meh... but this was OUTSTANDING! We have a friend and her son staying with us for a while and this was their first play and they LOVED it, as did I. I would highly recommend!
It was a pretty good show. Talented actors especially loved Burt. Loved the music . Would have liked more songs from the movie Though.
This production of Mary Poppins has an incredibly talented cast, which made the whole experience amazing. It was a joy to watch. Highly recommended.
It was fabulous, entertaining, I saw babies to elderly enjoying the show.. Dancing was top notch.. Had one of the best times there!
The day that I saw it is March 22, 2012. After the show, I’ve asked the cast and crew some follow up questions, and I met the kids (who played Jane and Michael Banks). It was a good show!
Google directions to the theatre were not the best. Trying to locate parking as a first time visitor was stressful. Now I know to immediately pull into the vacant mall parking lot across the street and walk across the crosswalk to the theatre. The theatre was beautiful inside but the seats felt very close together. If you are thin or a child it was very comfortable, if you are average, heavy, or overweight or sit near someone who might be you will feel very crammed together. The play had a good story line and good songs, the tech team kept missing the mark and occasionally forgot to switch the mics and the actor would begin their solo or speaking part with no mic on. The tech team eventually got it on though. The stage crew lights on their headsets is somewhat distracting and apparently for them as well as one time the team hit a wall when make set changes. One time when Mary flew she had her carpet bag turned the wrong way and the audience saw the cut out hole that the stage crew uses to feed items into the never ending bag. This was a clear oops moment. Finally, I felt that the character who played Mr Banks did a phenomenal job, The actress that sang feed the birds had a beautiful voice. The actress who played Mary Poppins had a definite air of confidence and played her character well. Sadly I do not know all the versions of the songs she was singing and the orchestra drowned out her voice quite often. Hands down the brother sister team that were the banks children were the best of the entire show. Very much in character, good with their cues and lines and wonderful voices. Even if they had a slight mishap they payed it off so well you wouldn't know it.
Couldn't hear the actors - sound system was not good making it very hard to understand the actors in both conversation and song.
This is the 3rd year in a row that I have attended this event. The shows are wonderful. The kids that perform in these musicals are so talented. I will surely go next year.
Great cast, great show, great venue... but very long!
Terrific production! Amazing this was all done by high school kids--their performance was spot on! Enjoyed the show!
We were not aware that this performance was only high school students. While they did a great job, I could pay $5-10.00 a ticket to see a high school play. Spending $25.00 per ticket and then a handling charge was a little extreme that they were kids.
Talent was okay for singing and dancing, however story was altered way too much. If they wanted to update the story they should have changed title and era it was portraying. In story Mary Poppins walks out on kids and toys come to life to scare children- didn't like bratty kids either.
