The play was good, but the sound system was horrible!
by Play lover on 3/12/24The Stanley - UticaI was excited to go to the Stanley to see Mary Poppins. I knew the Stanley was built a long time ago and I wanted to see the inside if it. We got there 45 minutes before the play started and found absolutely no parking anywhere close to the theater. There was a small parking lot a little bit up the road from the theater that said it was for the Stanley, but it was very small and totally full. We had to walk 5 or 6 blocks in the rain to get to the theater from the closest parking spot we could find. I wondered how the elderly, or people with little mobility was able to go to this theater. We got inside and found our seats. We have been to theaters all over the USA, we love to travel to see plays. I can say without hesitation, the Stanley has the worst sound system I have ever heard in a professional theater! It was lucky for me I knew the story of Mary Poppins, or I would not have been able to follow it at all! The music drowned out the singing voices, and when there was no music, the voices were all distorted. I was able to catch a word here and there, but that was it! I was so very disappointed in the theater!
