This is by far one of the best performed Kodo show we have seen all these years. The show has everything, the sequences of drum performances, flute and clowns' acts are all well played. We loved the show.
Kodo Drums haven't been at NJPAC since before COVID hit, and I have been waiting to see/hear them perform for a long time. When I saw the ad saying they would be at NJPAC I immediately got tickets. I definitely was not disappointed. I have seen this group perform three or four times and always enjoyed it. Their performance this time was even better than I remembered it. If you like Japanese Taiko drums, you will definitely like Kodo Drums. The precision drum beat rhythms are fantastic and just watching the performers is a show all by itself.
I couldn’t believe their non stop performances it was impressive ????
They are always amazing. It’s a great performance.
This is without a doubt one of the finest forms of entertainment from Asia. They take percussion and some dance to a whole level rarely experienced. Do NOT miss them!
Fully enjoyed the show. Great cast. Unbelievable choreography. Pure joy.
A beautiful and moving experience, so much more than "just drums". Highly recommend and would see them again.
I've see Kodo at least three times in Toronto but this latest production wasn't as intense or grounded as previous performances. The drumming performances were excellent but the staging (lighting, dragons, costumes) made it sometimes difficult to see the drummers and/or distracted from the experience. For example, while the use of low and directed light was used to help convey a narrative this aging audience member found that it took away from the experience. I purposely bought seats near the stage (row 7) so we could see and feel the drumming but it didn't quite deliver the experience of past shows.
at first with the dragons I thought well crap this show is going to be cheaply put together. Then all of the sudden the first drum act was amazing!! I felt my body get sucked into the shoW. This was an amazing show for it being my first time to one of these types of events!
