A great trio with Depopriya (bamboo flute) and Sabir (sarangi) together produced over 90 minutes if a travelogue through the Indian regions. Never miss an opportunity to see this gentleman and whoever he is playing with at the time. We don’t. Next stop is with Bela Fleck at Carnegie Hall this coming weekend. I never realized it at the time but 50 years ago he was teaching ethnomusicology at the UW here in Seattle while I was attending and listening to him in the first incarnation of Shakti on vinyl in the dorms.
