Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

The experience was unlike any other musical event ive been to.
The music was good, but all started to sound the same. The performance was just boring.
Got tickets to enjoy a funky night of dancing and singing with my best friend (based on what we knew of Khruangbin at the time), but what we experienced was far from that. The venue was so crowded, we couldn't see the stage, no matter where we tried to stand. When we could get a peek at the stage, the members of the band were all stationary, adding to the overall sleepy feel of the entire concert. There was no singing, just slow instrumentals that would be better suited for sleep than grooving, and the band didn't interact with the crowd at all. Each song just felt like a continuation of the last one. This was much different than any other concert we've been to, and we were extremely disappointed. We left early (and so did a lot of people at the same time as us), but maybe the vibes picked up after we left.
Khruangbin has created awesome beautiful sounds to my ears for about almost 6 years now. This is my first time seeing and hearing them live. Their sound cosmic. Love them. Also, I hope they can do a tour with Leon Bridges
The Anthem - great venue The crowd - it was packed Khruangbin - good tunes per usual
Khruangbin's performance at the Anthem was nothing short of mesmerizing. The band effortlessly blends elements of funk, soul, and psychedelic rock, creating a unique sound that transports you to another realm. Their stage presence is captivating, with each member showcasing their exceptional talent while maintaining a cool, laid-back vibe. The setlist was a perfect mix of my favorites, with their signature groovy instrumentals and ethereal vocals drawing the audience in. The lighting and visuals added an extra layer to the experience, enhancing the already immersive atmosphere. Overall, Khruangbin delivered an unforgettable show, leaving DC buzzing long after the final notes faded. If you have a chance to see them live, don't mis it! Thank you DJ, Laura and Mark for your dedication and love for music and to your amazing crew. We love you all!
Fantastic vibe at Anthem, it was a great show..Everyone’s head was moving to the beats!!
A week or so before the event I started to get emails suggesting we get there early. The show was advertised to start at 7:30. We got there around 7 to discover that Khruangbin was not to start until 9:15 and we immeadiatly asked if we could leave the venue and come back closer to 9:00. They rejected our request and we had to wait around through the warm up band (that did not start until around 8:00) OVER 2 HOURS. My advice to anyone reading this is unless you really want to see the warm up band, do not come early.
My only complaint is that maybe they groove too hard? Such a good concert.
