Home Free on Tour
Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.?
Home Free in Concert
The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

Music was great! Light show was not! We went from being blinded by bright lights to being unable to see the stage as our eyes were trying to adjust. The lights were a distraction not an enhancement.
This was a great PARTY! The Morrison Center is a fantastic venue for any concert. Home Free is my favorite group. So much fun!
They gave us a great show. The only criticism is that the lights were very disruptive and sometimes you couldn't even see the guys on the stage. Adam Rupp is a fantastic beatboxer but, for us it was more enjoyable when it was just him doing his thing and beatboxing that doing all the looping. I think some people wondered what all that had to do with country music. We enjoy his talents when it's just him doing his thing and not so much of the looping stuff. We understand what that all does when you're putting together a musical number as that was demonstrated with one of their songs. We saw several people leave from our area while he was doing all the looping. Other than that, the guys were fantastic, as always! They harmonize so well, and the new addition of Adam Bastein for Austin came across well. When he first started with the first number, we weren't so sure that he was a good replacement but as the show went on, he grew on us, and we decided that he would do well and was a fine addition to the group. We wish him well as he continues to settle in. The guys had everyone on their feet for the final song and for the encore numbers. We did miss that they weren't able to do any signings after the show like they have done in the past. Overall, it was a great show and we would definitely go see them again!!
I love listening to these guys, especially live! I love this kind of venue, where even if you have people standing in front of you, you can see everything. (I will say, the picture should have been updated to include the new member, and to not have Austin.)
The concert was over the top amazing…the voices least. The lights were a true distraction where we couldn’t even see the vocalists much of the time. The entire concept (and draw) of Home Free is the pure vocal sounds creating the entire experience. Juxtapose an overt light show—including missing spot lights on the beatbox soloist—pulled my review down. Cut the lights show, keep it pure and incredible blend and talent, and continue your personal connection with the audience. That is your brand.
Love Home Free! Second time attending and had a great time! Home Free has a way of making you feel welcome and their music is outstanding. We got the opportunity to move to the front and my husband and I were thrilled. Thank you Home Free, you are all amazing. The staff at the Morrison Center are amazing also, patient, kind and very welcoming. Thank you!
Missed the last Home Free concert and very much regretted it. Did not miss this one and sure am glad that I did not. Just as good as ever and maybe even better. Each song done by some of the finest voices that you will ever find on stage or anywhere else. Already looking forward to the next one! ??
Loved it! They brought comedy, great music and lots of fun!
They were awesome! I had never heard their music until the concert (my husband wanted to go and took me). They are so talented and sing popular country songs so it was easy to know the songs. Get your tickets to see them, you won't be dissapointed.
