Declared "one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history" by the Washington Post, DEAREVAN HANSEN is the first musical to take a groundbreaking look--from the point of view of both the parents and young people--at our complex, interconnected, and social media-filled lives. Evan Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he's on the outside looking in. Evan finally gets what so many of us are searching for--the chance to finally fit in. What follows is a poignant, funny, and powerful musical about how even though it can be hard, we can find each other--and ourselves--along the way. Including some of the most iconic musical theatre songs from the last decade, including "You Will Be Found," "Waving Through A Window," and "For Forever," DEAR EVAN HANSEN features an uplifting score by the Tony?, Grammy?, and Oscar? winning team behind The Greatest Showman, La La Land, and "Only Murders in the Building" Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson.

Dear Evan Hansen may not appeal to an older musical theater loving audience . It tackles issues like teen sex , teen suicide , being a single Mom dealing with a teen who has some depression. I loved the show and based on the people around me , a lot of younger people they did too. I had see the show off Broadway ?? and also on Broadway several times . The touring cast was solid . All were fine actors with amazing voices . The only real issue I have with this production is the sound . I had this problem with Jagged Little Pill , which just came to Shea’s . They need to adjust or fix the sound , in many songs the band drowns out the performers and you can barely hear them . It’s very frustrating as an audience member. I have seen these shows on Broadway and the sound quality and levels are perfect. I know it’s tough touring and being in a different theater every night , so maybe the acoustics change , but I assume the sound technicians get paid well and should do a better job in the dress run through. The tickets are expensive and it just plain sucks that we can’t hear every lyric the cast is singing because the attention to detail by the crew is lacking . So instead of 5 , this gets a 4 . Could be better .
My expectations were mild to low before seeing Dear Evan Hansen however I could not have been wrong! Great story, music, and acting. A must see for everyone but especially high schoolers who may think no one understands them.
The cast recording was the soundtrack of my lockdown at the start of the pandemic, so when I saw this was coming to my city, I didn’t hesistate getting tickets. It was an immensely powerful and emotional show; one that hits all the right beats with its stellar cast, band, acting, and set design. Perfect casting all around!
Loved the play. Great seats. Loved having electronic tickets in my digital wallet.
Sad but beautiful story - told in a great way -- cast & band were all super -- music was fabulous and powerful - no downsides to the play, cast or production. See it if you can!!
Acting was great, but the music and the story were lacking. It was also not a great representation of mental health issues.
Let's start with the positive. The show was BRILLIANT!!! Every actor was amazing. The music, the sets, the costumes and the attention to detail was outstanding. We had tickets to see this show in Chicago the year the pandemic hit, and like everything else, it was canceled. I'm not a movie fan when I can see it live, so I have waited patiently to see this show, and it did not disappoint. Now for the negative. I bought my tickets way in advance, and checked to see which night I could get the best seats. We always sit about 4th row center. I purchased 4th row center and was so excited. When we got to the theatre and they scanned our tickets, they said we would need to go to the box office. When we got to the box office, they said either our tickets were season ticket holders or they had been double sold, but they gave us 2 tickets in the same row, but seats 3 and 4. We were almost on the outside aisle. We were so disappointed. Listening to the conversation from the people behind us, they experienced the same thing, and their high school age daughter was in tears with disappointment. We explained our disappointment to the usher when she came around knowing there was nothing she could do, but just wanting to vent our frustration. She came back after patiently listening, and said the theatre was not sold out, so a few minutes before the show we could move seats. I checked the seats on the ticketmaster app and realized the chairs in the front two rows only had 4 seats sold out of 40. We asked about moving up there, but she said because of the cost difference we could not. After checking with her supervisor, she came back and ushered us to the second row CENTER!!! Chances are she will never see this, however she is a 71 year old special education teacher in the Peoria Illinois area and she MADE A DIFFERENCE!!! I can never thank her enough for caring enough, and knowing the KIND thing to do. She WAS the star of a magnificent show about caring for people. Spectacular show and AMAZING ushers that CARE!!!
I personally had never attended an award winning Broadway musical play but coming across the trailer for “Dear Evan Hansen” I thought it might be something my 14 and 17 year old granddaughters would be interested in attending with me as they had already been to see the hit show Hamilton. They were super excited to go without even knowing what the show was about as they too really never knew, or had heard of what the show was or was about. The trailer only offers a small bit of insight as this musical contains so much more content that is so appropriate for teenagers and adults in our current time and experience. It warns of basically for teens or adults as age suitable with younger children not allowed and that’s appropriate. I was a bit wondering about the early cursing but who hasn’t heard the words spoken or rude innuendo directed towards someone before. Without the harshness though, this play would not drive home the message that you will get. It’s message is telling of what troubles our youth (adults too) of today too commonly experience in today’s world. To me, it’s a must see. The performance is exceptional. It will provide you a full range of emotions from laughter to sadness just like we all experience during our lives but with providing you an actual teaching/telling lesson. I’ll stop here and finish by saying that my granddaughters really loved the show Hamilton but told me after the performance that this show is so much better and is now their favorite. If you get a chance to see the show near where you live with your teenage children or grandchildren, please treat them to “Dear Evan Hansen”. You’ll be thankful that you did and it just might be a memorable moment of your life together. Total rave in my opinion, go see it!
What an amazing musical. This was so well done! So many messages and life lessons. Beautiful music and voices; and exceptional acting. I was so enthralled! Never even looked at my watch. Extremely recommend seeing this! It will stick with you!
Wonderfully entertaining with very important messages. This show is for everyone.
Bal 2 seats- thought we wouldn’t get as much from the show experience, but we could see the actors’ facial expressions! Fantastic venue and staff ?? We were late due to work, and they were helpful and friendly. Hurried us to place so we wouldn’t get stuck at a hold. The show was amazing. Set transitions were incredibly smooth and lighting was crazy accurate. The sound was crystal clear. The musicians hidden onstage were brilliant- spot on! So so talented. The actors did not disappoint! So talented and still smiling about their performances. I mean, we cried a few times- the script and songs were well written. We were totally engulfed. I think people need reminders on how to be courteous audience members, though. Accidental alarms and phone calls happen once in a while, but there was a person who took a picture with the flash on. Someone who slowly fixed her hair with her arm stretched, blocking someone in our party from seeing. Someone next to me put their feet on the chair in front, right behind someone’s head ?? All in all, I recommend the venue and the show!
Outstanding show. Vocals were incredible. One of the strongest I’ve heard since Wicked. Heavy topic but still amazing nonetheless. A must watch.
i’ve been waiting four years to watch this! from the moment i walked in, it felt magical! i teared up because the moment finally came. i couldn’t believe that i was finally watching the musical that has helped me through hard times. i laughed, cried, and smiled the whole way through. i even danced with the actors during “sincerely, me.” the actors did an amazing on portraying their character. it was such an incredible experience! it definitely exceeded my expectations. i hope to go again one day!
I had a very small idea of what to expect from what my wife told me about it, but had no idea the depth of the story. Bring tissues, I'm a grown ass man and it brought me to tears... I'm not crying you're crying!
I’ve seen “Dear Evan Hansen” three times now and I’ve completely fallen in love with this musical! I first saw it in NYC last Summer before it left Broadway, then this past Fall at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, TN, then this 3rd time in Chattanooga. The performance was wonderful but it was interesting that the show started off with one guy playing Evan Hansen and then they switched mid Act I. What was wrong with the first guy is one thing I may never know…he did seem shook-up when his microphone came off during “Waving through a Window” and that could explain why he messed-up and didn’t hit the big notes at the end of the song. However, why was he still struggling with hitting the big notes on the next song which was, “For Forever.” He totally bailed out on the high notes. Then, for “Sincerely Me” he seemed to have it all together and then they announced the next understudy was playing Evan Hansen for the rest of the performance. Was he sick or was the moment just too much for him? Someone said the guy playing Evan Hansen was really nervous because he was a Chattanooga native and the show was in Chattanooga but, I just hope he was okay. I just find it very odd for an actor to be replaced mid Act I. I’ve been A LOT of musicals and plays and have never seen that happen before.
I have to start by saying i love Broadway's Dear Evan Hansen. I saw it in NYC with most of the original cast (minus Ben, unfortunately) and in Atlanta. This cast was excellent in general. I thought the actor playing Evan could have been more emotional during "Words Fail" and the actor playing Heidi Hansen was a bit overdramatic at times. The rest of the cast was as good as I've seen. I was really impressed with the actor playing Jared. He was funny and likable for a character who can act like a real jerk. The actor playing Zoe had a good range and was especially poignant during "Requiem". Overall, i would recommend this cast. And if you've only seen the movie, this production is a good wayvto see what Dear Evan Hansen is supposed to be.
Thank you to this Awesome cast for a beautiful goodbye to one of our favorite musicals ever.
The show was amazing! It absolutely lives up to the hype. The cast was on their game! The facility was lovely and the attendants were very helpful!
