Columbus Crew History
The Columbus Crew holds the distinction of being introduced in 1994 as the first of 10 inaugural MLS clubs. In 1999, the club further etched its place in American sports history when it played its first game at the former Historic Crew Stadium, the country's first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer.
On the pitch, the team's first trophy came in 2002, when the Black & Gold won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Crew's first MLS Cup trophy came in 2008 with the team also securing the Supporters' Shield that season led by Argentine midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto. The midfielder won the league's MVP award in 2008, and he wrapped things up that season by assisting on all three of the Crew's goals in their victory over the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final. The Crew followed that up by winning the Supporters' Shield in 2009.
In the 2020 season, the club focused on competing globally with the signing of players like Lucas Zelarayan and Darlington Nagbe to add quality, and coupled with veteran talent like Gyasi Zardes team captain Jonathan Mensah, the Crew took home their second-ever MLS Cup trophy. Zelarayan, who had been named the 2020 MLS Newcomer of the Year, registered two goals and one assist against Seattle Sounders FC 3-0, also securing 2020 MLS Cup MVP honors. In 2023, Columbus hoisted the MLS Cup for a third time behind an MVP performance by forward Cucho Hernández.

Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field
The 2022 MLS season marked the first full season for the Crew at Lower.com Field - a dynamic and new soccer-specific stadium in the heart of Columbus in the Astor Park neighborhood.
In 2021, the Black & Gold moved into Lower.com Field, which has a capacity for 20,371 supporters and includes seats that are as much as 28 feet closer to the pitch than any of the seats at Historic Crew Stadium. A defining feature of the stadium is a 220,000 square-foot canopy that covers all supporters during the match, providing shelter from weather conditions throughout the season. The New Nordecke at Lower.com Field is located on the north end of the stadium and is the second-largest supporters section in MLS, with standing-only capacity for 3,364 supporters.
The Columbus Crew’s 2024 regular season kicks off in February at home as the Crew face off against Atlanta United FC. Columbus plays their final match of the regular season at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey against Eastern Conference opponents the New York Red Bulls. Of all professional sporting event, Crew is my favorite. Not only are they an amazing team but they are also humble. I love the CREW!!
Sampled from a few vendors and wasn't let down. Schmidts in the north end is my favorite. The Crew are so good that it sometimes doesn't seem real. I've been a ticket holder as long as anyone and this is the best that I have ever seen them play.
We love the Crew and wouldn't miss a match!! Always a blast! Great venue too! Go Crew!!
Nordecke was so packed that we did not have a place to stand. We searched for over a half hour before the game. We got shuffled around the stadium to the other side as the game was starting. Then moved back to the ease party deck at the 23rd minute. I am a STM and have never had a bad experience at the stadium as I did for Leagues Cup finals. Either overselling tickets for the section or people coming into nordecke who didn’t belong there: it was an anxiety riddled event.
There is no better fan experience than watching the Columbus Crew play at LDC. The hype, the noise, the love, the coach, the style of play, and the quality of the team members are unmatched. If you’ve been think about - stop - just buy a ticket and go! You’re welcome!
As usual it was awesome watching the Crew prove that MLS is rising. I realize that to most people over seas we are less than. It seems funny though that many teams over seas come here to recruit our MLS trained players. The match was a blast to watch. the crowd was noisy, just the way it should be. Very enjoyable.
There were no lightning or thunder in the area only rain. It was unnecessary to evacuate the seats..
Beautiful and clean stadium, easy to get in and out of. And of course a great game. Absolutely love coming to the Crew every year.
This was an exciting night. Lots of fun. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. It’s a nice, new stadium. The only criticism is the seats are way too close together. I was touching the person next to me and had zero leg room. I’ve never been in such a tight stadium.
Everything about Lower.com stadium is great . I only gave 4 stars because The Crew lost the game- lol !!’ otherwise it’s 5 stars .
