As a young professional dancer, it is always important for me to experience new styles of dance. I have developed a great respect for contemporary movement, and this performance from Lines was ridiculously good. The movement quality alone emanated emotion and control. These dancers paired beautifully with the music and lighting, bringing the 3 works together seamlessly. I highly recommend attending a performance by Lines.
This is a must see work of art! It is artistically performed amidst beautiful music- the whole show is fascinating! Mesmerizing! Non traditional ballet that features performers that exude strength, endurance, and beauty!!! Captivating performance!
I won't lie the thought of another boring ballet had me going into this show with the wrong attitude. Then the curtain dropped and my jaw hit the floor and never returned. The movement and bodies were awe inspiring. Honestly the first two movements were the best.. they didn't close the show with a bang.. but it was still soooo good. Can't wait til next time.. the dancers are so beautiful.
It was heartening to see human beings performing at the level of precision and excellence and exuberance that these performers pull off. I enjoyed that there was a mix of flat foot dance and also on point dancing. Michael Montgomery was the most fun to watch.
The beautiful movement both singular and in groupings was amazing. It kept me enthralled the entire time. The simple yet dramatic backgrounds were perfect for the dance style.
if you enjoy interpretive dance and modern ballet you will most likely enjoy this. But if you expect any resemblance to the original stay home. The program says after Rimsky - Korsakov how closely after is debatable. I would say several million miles myself as the score had no resemblance at all and sounded more like Halloween sound effects to my ear. That said the choreography and dancers were the stars of the evening simply perfect and considering the score they had to work with miracle workers also.
I was spellbound by these dancers. The emotion and intention that they displayed was so intense and so real. They were as close to perfection as I have ever seen. I highly recommend this ballet company to anyone who loves dance!
From the title of the ballet I was expecting a traditional theatrical rendition of the Arabian Nights nights story, as opposed to a metaphysical interpretation of Sheherezade, so I was completely let down by this ballet. Had I expected the later I would have perhaps enjoyed this ballet more. Since I was expecting something else I was completely disappointed despite the fact that I happen to LOVE ballet. I searched on youtube, on google, on the Saroyan Theatre website and so many other sites to get some information on this ballet or a clip but found nothing and so again from the name of the ballet, expected something very very different. I recommend better explanations of the ballet on the internet with advertisments so that those buying tickets know what they are getting before they arrive at the ballet and sadly read the playbill or sit down to watch, so their expectations are not squashed. However Any time the lead male dancer came out he was exceptionally splended, by far outshining anyone in his presence. I swear from the way he moved that he does not have bones. He seemed to move effortlessesly, flinging his arms, legs or head as if they were not attached to his body. And yet he was clearly masterfully controlled, not moving wildly, just fascinatingly skilled.. It was captivating to watch him. Next to him the Prima although clearly accurate in her movements seemed stiff, like a cheerleader that does all the moves correctly but with no rythym or soul. Watching the tall, dark strong dancer was worth seeing the ballet. He would be so awesome dancing the older Alvin Ailey dances. I would travel to see that.
The skill and execution of the dancers movement was amazing and completely worth seeing however, being an average audience member who is not deeply versed in the art of ballet, I did not care for the interpretation of the music or the theme of the first ballet. Perhaps a more sophisticated viewer would appreciate the vision of the choreographer.
