UTEP Department of Music In Concert
With around 23,000 students, the University of Texas at El Paso is a pretty big place. And with a net price of under $3,000 per year, it's among the best values of all U.S. research universities. On top of that, it has one of the most esteemed music programs in the southern United States, an attraction to both students and audiences. Boasting around 300 students, the UTEP Department of Music offers a number of degrees, including General Studies with Teacher Certification, Performance, Commercial Music, and Theory and Composition. Its diverse academic programs draw an outstanding base of talented young musicians. Naturally, there's a wide range of ensembles that perform regularly and include both music majors and non-majors.
The UTEP Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Lowell Graham, is the university's primary orchestra. It performs numerous times throughout the year, and has a standard orchestral literature that includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel, and Respighi. The UTEP Wind Symphony is one of the crown jewels of the university. Playing six concerts a year, this group tours the Southwest and has performed at important functions like the Texas Music Educators Association and the College Band Directors National Association conventions. The Wind Symphony frequently commissions new works and has premiered compositions by a number of composers; it has also released numerous albums. The ensemble is directed by Bradley Genevro. The Marching Miner Regiment is another essential group in the UTEP Department of Music arsenal. With 250 members, it's the largest music ensemble at the university. The Regiment has appeared at professional football games around the country, at Disneyland, and at NCAA basketball tournaments. It comprises woodwinds, brass, and percussion, and performs with a color guard and the GoldDiggers dance team. The UTEP Department of Music also features a number of jazz ensembles.

A master class of talent and preparation Talento talento talento
My father introduced me to opera as a child. I have been blessed to have been able to experience opera in many different venues around the world. Being at the opera is like breathing new life. Opera is life. The Opera Showcase by the UTEP Music Department is a perfect example of a noble and outstanding effort by students and professors. Their performance was worthy of any world stage, in my humble, but experienced opinion. I hope and look forward to many future performances.
Everything was outstanding. Glad the musicians were able to perform to a live audience after all this time. Every performance was awesome.
Had a super great time at the UTEP Symphony Orchestra Concert, their performance was inspiring
The recital hall was very intimate, you really feel connected and are part of the emotion of the musicians. I would definitely return!
I am telling so many people that this Jazz ensemble from Utep are so good! I was quite impressed. I love Jazz to begin with. I wasn't sure who would be my guest to join me, hence, I am glad it was my hubby. He also was very intrigued and very amazed. You all should charge a little more, maybe $10 per person. Well worth the price! Thank you for such an incredible evening of wonderful jazz players! The drummer was so into it and very good! The soloists who played their instruments were very outstanding and it was so wonderful seeing that they not only played so excellent, but, they LOVED what they were doing! It showed on their faces.
This is propably the 7th time I have seen Layali Al-Sham perform since the ensemble came together. They are just wonderful, and it is a delight to hear such beautiful music!!! I LOVE going to see them play and I will see them every chance I get for as long as I can :) It is a wonderful experience that I recommend very highly to everyone of my friends. MONEY WELL SPENT!!!!! :)
