Church of Cash Live in Concert
Delighting fans around the globe, Church of Cash is more than just a Johnny Cash tribute band. Frontman Jay Ernest embodies the spirit of the Man in Black and his deep baritone could be mistaken for Cash's own.
With a mission to "spread the gospel of one of the world's most important and enduring songwriters," Church of Cash performs Cash's more obscure tunes as well as hits such as "I Walk The Line" and "Ring of Fire." Ernest, usually clad in a shiny black suit, is backed by a talented band who give fans the sense that they've seen Cash himself.
Ernest has an uncanny grasp of Cash's material as well as his mannerisms, and it's no surprise given that he's spent more than a decade touring the world performing Cash's hits throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Don't miss your chance to see this gifted performer embody the spirit of Johnny Cash when Church of Cash comes to a city near you.
Church of Cash on Tour
Church of Cash frontman Jay Ernest was raised on a farm in southern Minnesota and later performed in a touring ska band as well as a reggae new wave hybrid band, which seems an unlikely journey to fronting a Johnny Cash cover band. But there were clues along the way.
Ernest's father was an avid Johnny Cash fan and he used to sing Cash's songs while they worked on the farm together. Although Ernest didn't know it at the time, his father's love of the Man in Black's music was preparing him for what was later to become a thriving career fronting Church of Cash.
Ernest was always interested in playing music and ended up moving to Hawaii where he performed in bars to entertain people. He realized that of all the songs he played, it was the Johnny Cash songs that made people put down their drinks and really pay attention. He also discovered he had an encyclopedic knowledge of Cash's catalog, so he formed Church of Cash in Honolulu in 2010.
Since then Ernest relocated back to his home state of Minnesota and often spends much of the year touring the world, having played more than 1,000 shows with Church of Cash. Bringing the spirit of the legendary country crooner to delight fans of all ages, Church of Cash have won the 2019 and 2021 Midwest CMO Best Tribute Act Award and were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2021.
