UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball History
The UConn Huskies have one of the most decorated programs in women’s college basketball. Geno Auriemma took over as head coach ahead of the 1985–86 season and has led the Huskies ever since on his way becoming the second-most winningest coach in women’s basketball. Under Auriemma’s leadership, the Huskies have earned a women’s college basketball record 11 NCAA National Championship titles, 22 Final Four appearances, six undefeated seasons, and two of the longest win streaks in college basketball history. Between their former membership in the American Athletic Conference and ongoing placement in the Big East, the Huskies have secured 29 regular season conference titles and 28 conference tournament championships. Notable alumni include Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Swin Cash, Maya Moore, Renee Montgomery, Tina Charles and Breanna Stewart.?

UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion and the XL Center
The Huskies split their home games between the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, and the larger XL Center in Hartford. Gampel Pavilion opened in 1990 and seats more than 10,000 fans, while the XL Center, formerly the Hartford Civic Center, opened in 1975 and has a capacity of nearly 16,000 for basketball games. Home games feature a boisterous student section and the charming Big Red tradition.
