Energetic 90 minutes!
by Eric In Chicago on 5/26/24Apollo Theater - ChicagoI knew nothing of the show but kept seeing ads of the Apollo show on Facebook so I checked out some YouTube videos. It looked fun, tickets were reasonable and we’d been looking to see a live show, so… The cast and the setup of the show are outstanding! I loved the “breaking the third wall” approach with audience members going onstage for beers, interaction with the cast and more. It’s also the first show that encouraged taking and posting pictures and videos. Yes, it’s a jukebox musical with some entertaining versions of songs you know and love. In fact, I compared it to a good episode of Glee! The singing, dancing and music is energetic and outstanding! The story isn’t deep or compelling but it helps tie the songs together. It appears that there are a couple different set lists used as YouTube had Queen’s Somebody To Love and The Kinks Waterloo Sunset videos but those weren’t in the show we saw. If you’re looking for 90 minutes to spend with a smile on your face and being incredibly entertained this is definitely worth seeing.
