St. John's Red Storm Women’s Basketball History
St. John’s University fielded its first women’s basketball team in 1974. After joining the Big East Conference in 1982, the Red Storm earned their first regular season title, conference championship and NCAA women’s championship tournament spot in their first year of contention. The team has competed in Women’s March Madness for a total of 11 tournament appearances, including six Second Round matches and a Sweet Sixteen run in 2012. St. John’s has been coached by Joe Tartamella since 2012.

St. John's Red Storm at Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden
The St. John's Red Storm mainly host home games at Carnesecca Arena on the university’s campus in Queens, New York. The venue opened in 1961 and seats 5,602. The team has also played over a dozen games at Madison Square Garden, home of the NBA’s New York Knicks, in the neighboring borough of Manhattan.
