I was at many of the Black Cat Lounge shows in the 90s. This show hit me like that. Kevin's voice and stage presence were spot on. The guitar work (both Bill's and Kevin's) was excellent and Conrad's drumming drove the sound, relentlessly driving "Wiggin'"as if Frosty were on the drum kit. Bryan's bass work was excellent as usual.
They played all the hits, weaving episodes of Bonecrusher into the mix several times, then transitioning into something else only to return. Big Backyard was another highlight, as was crowd favorite, "Here."I had rather hear Kevin's lead guitar magic on "Here"than a fiddle solo, but the fiddler/cellist who joined them for a few songs was highly skilled.
The band had rehearsed to the point that this show came off like a performance by a road-tested touring band where the members instinctively finished each other's thoughts musically and rhythmically. The jamming was as outstanding as it was unexpected for a band that only regroups a time or two a year.
Book 'em again, Antone's! It will sell out. Maybe I'll get to hear Preacherman live again in this lifetime.
