Fun night of Comedy at the Riviera
by Nick on 1/29/24The Riviera Theater - CharlestonIt was a really fun night, from the beautiful Riviera Theater to the opening act of Zach Martina then the main act Rory Scovel. A great evening of comedy!
Rory Scovel can currently be seen starring as Danny in Apple TV+'s hour-long series "Physical," as well as in Paramount Picture's "Babylon." Prior to that, he starred in "I Feel Pretty" opposite Amy Schumer and can be seen in New Line's feature "The House," ABC's "Modern Family," and NBC's "Superstore," as well as in his Comedy Central series "Robbie," which he also created. His hour stand-up special "Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For The First Time" is currently streaming on Netflix.

Professional comedy, hilarious and entertaining, really funny, great energy.
Rory Scovel is a hilarious stand up comedian. I laughed nonstop. I love his irreverent style. Can't wait until he comes back to town.
Rory Scovel will make you laugh so hard that when you think you’ve caught your breath, you’re back to laughing, again. I still have a bit of trouble breathing, several days after, and no, I’ve already tested multiple times for COVID. It’s not that. Rory Scovel is just THAT funny.
Rory delivered a so well crafted show, beautifuly balanced, well written and insightful. A lot of sex jokes too. High level entertainement.
I brought my 17-year-old to see Rory as his first stand-up show. We laughed so hard, our core ached. Sometimes, we couldn't laugh at jokes simply because we were too tired. Rory Scovel is severely under rated in this business.
10/10 nonstop laughs. First time seeing Rory live and would go again.
I truly love Rory's comedy. However, I will still honestly review what I think of his comedy overall. Based on all of the Rory content I've seen, it's clear that part of his tactic involves pushing topics beyond the point people may enjoy. I appreciate his methods, and I think it's funny, even when he gets "raunchy" or pushes the dominant sexual content to unforgiving heights. With all that said, I enjoy it when he hits topics outside of that dominant sexual content because he is unique and clever in his approach to comedy, which I feel sets him apart from all other comedians. I see and experience that comic brilliance in him and think he would draw much bigger crowds venturing into topics outside of sexuality. For example, he touched on religion at the Wilbur and it was beautifully executed, believable, funny, and clever. Kick it Rore!
I friggin love Rory but tonight was a total letdown. I’ve watched plenty of his skits on tv, his Netflix special, loved him on the show Physical, great on SuperStore and so I was pumped. Sadly, out is time (maybe an hour) on stage, about 45 mins of it was just sex jokes. And crude sex jokes too! I knew he’d say some sexual stuff, that’s fine, whatever but this was overkill and disappointing. It was basically no material, just rambling on about tons of sex. I was really looking forward to this and brought my son, who is 16, my bad I know but we’ve watched his stuff together and he loves his stealing old people jokes, the frisbee joke and we were hoping for stuff like that. Obviously people had a good time but we were just sad we wasted our time :/
I enjoyed myself and laughed so much! Sorry no belly laughs
