Ozark Jubilee in Concert
The holiday show 'A Branson Christmas' is a perfect example of the legacy that Ozark Jubilee works so hard and so successfully to maintain. The original incarnation of Ozark Jubilee back in the 1950s was one of America's most influential country music TV series, combining down-home comedy, killer country music, and Southern gospel – all performed live with an electrifying, entertaining appeal for the entire family. The contemporary stage version of Ozark Jubilee manages to keep all of those elements intact: from the great old-school country classics, to Doofus Doolittle's back-porch humor and hot fiddling. And when they set their sights on a seasonal theme, it just naturally dovetails with the gospel side of the show's makeup. Obviously you also get some great, twangy takes on timeless Christmas tunes like "Silent Night" and "White Christmas," to bring that holiday spirit all the way home.
Ozark Jubilee Background
Hosted by Red Foley, one of the era's biggest country stars, the weekly television show first appeared in 1955, when TV was still in its infancy– offering the first regular presentation of country music on network TV. In addition to top Nashville artists performing the popular country tunes of the day, the show featured comedy, square dances, and gospel music. Setting the stage for legendary shows like 'Hee Haw,' the 'Ozark Jubilee' was enormously influential, running through 1960, with a couple of name changes along the way. In 1995, hot country fiddler, comedian, and businessman Randy Newman bought the rights to the name and concept, and he wound up bringing the production to Branson, Missouri, as a stage show. With Newman as goofy host Doofus Doolittle, and a crackerjack cast of top-tier country (and gospel) pickers and singers, the show re-creates that All-American family-fun essence first established by the original series, and when Ozark Jubilee goes on the road, an even bigger audience gets to share in that spirit.
It was the best country/Christmas experience by far. Will see it again and hope it is soon. Thank You for sharing your talents!!!
Worst show i have ever seen. Actually feel it did Branson an injustice!
Ozark Jubilee very entertaining and relaxing Some songs very touching especially tribute to Veterans and Sept 11. Excellent musicians especially fiddler player.
I just love the Ozark Jubilee. I been to Branson 27 times and any time I get a chance to see a show around here I’m there also.
We were a bit disappointed in the stage set-up with Antique decorations for the Christmas portion of the show. With the promotion of this event, anticipated Cecil being part of the show, which he wasn’t. There was a limited cast. The singers were awesome, and Duffus is an amazing violin player, MC, and very animated in telling his jokes. Having been to shows in Branson, anticipated more performers. It was very entertaining, and a great show overall.
I loved this show! The jokes made me laugh, and some of the songs made me cry. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. Lots of talent!
Was slightly disappointed. Only 2 singers plus the MC who did fiddle (fabulously) and sing and 3 band members. We were expecting a larger group and definitely more singers. Songs selected was OK but expected more Christmas tunes. Loved the veterans tribute.
