Everything about this show was excellent. From the start with Astrid Young to the acapella song at the end. And the absolute excitement I felt with we realized that it was 55 yrs ago CSNY played Woodstock. What a great show !!!
It was a 4 star show. I guess I expected more... would I go again, no once was enough.....
Brought back great memories recommending seeing them again
I found out about this band because I’m a big Pink Floyd fan and follow any musicians who have worked with them or members of the band. Steve Distanislao was David Gilmour’s drummer for the past two albums and tours and was referred to David from Crosby and Nash from touring with them as well and is an excellent percussionist. I had caught news he was doing this project and decided to catch the Woodstock gig which funnily enough ended up being on the 55th reunion of Woodstock of which CSNY participated in. The band was full of past members or family of CSNY and easily played the tunes very tightly while sounding great.
Great night of music that brought us back to our youth. Music was excellent. We really enjoyed this show.
I don't know what all the negative reviews are on about. I went to the show in Boston on what would have been David Crosby's 83rd birthday and it was absolutely wonderful to share that day with the friends and family of the band. I enjoyed the deeper cuts and a true CSN/Y fan would too. I thought Astrid was adorable. Chris Price, the guy who sang Southern Man (among other songs), was phenomenal!! The arrangement of that song was quite different, yes, but I really enjoyed it. Lord knows CSN/Y took plenty of liberties on the arrangements of their own songs (Stephen routinely would say that he would get bored and change things up alllll the time - look up live versions of the Suite, no two were ever the same!!!) so I appreciated the arrangement of Southern Man - I thought it fit the song really well. CSN has been my favorite band for my entire life and this loving tribute was so special for me. Jeff Pevar has been a staple in the CSN bubble for *decades*, as has Steve DiStanislao. Michelle WIllis was hand picked by David Crosby for not one, but both of his solo backing bands over the last 10 years. She killed it on Lee Shore and it brought me to tears (it's one of my favorite songs!!)! If I could make it to the show in Bethel on Sunday 8/18 (the EXACT day that CSNY played there at Woodstock!!) I absolutely would go see them again. Anyone who doesn't appreciate this show for what it is - a beautiful tribute to the band members' friends, family, and one of the greatest bands ever - they're delusional!!
While the show we saw wasn't as badly received as what appears to have happened in Ft. Lauderdale (!) I agree with the comments that there was a bit too much of Astrid Young's long and somewhat repetitive songs. I enjoyed the CSNY songs, but the harmonies were off, as was the mix, so that a lot of the time the somewhat off-key background vocals drowned out the lead. While this was advertised as featuring stories from Henry Diltz, he was nowhere in evidence, and there were no children of the original group - just friends and one half sister. It wasn't the evening I expected. Where I will disagree with many of the other reviewers was on Chris Pierce's performance of Southern Man. For me, that was the highlight of the evening. Powerful and moving. I'll definitely be looking for more of his music in future.
Not enough popular songs by CSNY. They did play for awhile .
I guess we really do all have our own opinions but I absolutely disagree with the others when they negatively critiqued this show. It was a wonderful tribute to the wonderful music of CSNY - while showcasing the incredible talent of all those on stage. And BTW - the version of Southern Man was absolutely OFF THE HOOK!! I only wish I could find it somewhere so I could repeatedly play it. Keep doing the work you're doing Our House! We in Patchogue LOVED YOU!!!
8 people on stage did not come close to CSN&Y. While some songs were good it seemed like they were trying to turn each song into some kind of a great opus. One big casualty was Southern Man. It bore almost no similarity to the original and the singer was overly dramatic.in execution. Suite Judy Blue Eyes was another. While one guitarist switched guitars for almost ever song they couldnt be bothered to play In th original tuning or even on an acoustic. Most of the originals were 3 to 4 minutes long and they would have do e much better to keep them that length. We won't be going back to see this band.
