OTTMAR LIEBERT IN CONCERT:
Guitarist and? Zen monk Ottmar Liebert is a giant of new age music, beloved by fans around the world for his virtuosic brand of Spanish-influenced guitar instrumentals. His pared down live performances are a model of less-is-more, moving audiences with simple yet emotional arrangements that allow his talents to really shine. Fans at Liebert's 2013 shows were treated to a decidedly spiritual experience, building anticipation for his 2014 tour dates with his band Luna Negra.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Cologne, West Germany, Ottmar Liebert took up the guitar at age 11 and the flamenco guitar at 14. After several years playing rock music throughout Germany and the US, Liebert settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1989 and started the first incarnation of his band Luna Negra. Their 1990 debut LP Nouveau Flamenco marked a break with Liebert's rock past, instead exploring "new flamenco," a subgenre that featured traditional flamenco guitar alongside more contemporary pop elements. Over the next two decades, Liebert released more than 20 studio albums, five of which received Grammy nominations for Best New Age Album. The recipient of 38 Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, Liebert is poised for even more success with two new albums slated for 2014.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"To describe Ottmar's performance as amazing would be an understatement. It was without a doubt...the evening of a lifetime. He plays with his heart and soul — you as the audience feel every chord that he strums."
"Ottmar Liebert was incredible. He played for an hour and a half and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. He played some new music, the new CD is fabulous. He played some old music, it was the perfect mix of songs. He is a humble and talented man."
"Spiritual and then some. His playlist was great and in some cases, I preferred the stage version over the studio version."

Amazing guitarist with a unique flamenco style that is timeless.
I've been to Ottmar Liebert's concert before and enjoy his music. This was not up to his standards or what I listen to. It had lots of repetition & no real sense of his music that got boring. The best song was one he said was from 20 years ago. The Rialto Theater is also not a great venue. We did have floor seats. They were folding, padded seats but were spaced tightly together. The Rialto I don't think has AC and relies on evaporative cooling so when a group of people like this are packed in it gets steamy. We had people in the row in front of us get up, out & back several times. To hot? I need to make sure I only attend shows in the winter in AZ.
Omar was a man of few words. His guitar was nice to listen to. His drummer and bass man added lots of texture to his music. The venue had terrible seating, uncomfortable and way too close to each other.
The seating was the worse, crowed in like a bunch of Sardine, it was very hot. Not a good situation at all. The music was very profesional, but nothing to get excited about. The show needs to be much more lively and Ottmar need to bring the audiance into the show; he never connected with the audiance. I will not spend the money again to go see him, This was the second time I attended his show in Tucson.
Ottmar was great. His sideman added color and texture to the music as well. Love the Rialto, but the seat cushions definitely need to be replaced. Old and uncomfortable especially when sitting more than an hour. Thanks!
He is a very talented artist, but disappointed that he did not play any songs I was more familiar with. Also, the venue was miserably hot-making it very difficult to enjoy the concer. All in all, he is talented and was fantastic!
Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra did a great concert featuring new songs and classics. Time flew fast throughout the concert, they kept the public engaged. I have aleays admired Liebert’s classic technique and was surprised by the quality of the bass and drums. Defineitely a great concert!
Incredible musician, and great venue. My first time experiencing both.
Exactly what my soul needed. The perfect date night.
