First of all, my husband and I drove from Palmdale to Ventura just to see the concert, we had both gotten a cold, but decided that we would go anyway ((masked up and hit th door), as we did not want to miss Jennifer, and we have no regrets whatsoever. The whole concert was wonderful: the venue was lovely, the children's choir, the ballet dancers, the orchestra was superb and, again, Jennifer really set the night straight. I'm so glad we went, under the weather and all.
Music & musicians were fantastic!! Light and fun and positive & whimsical and cheerful!
It was unexpectedly fantastic!! I was so impressed!! Wonderful playing of music and choice of music!! They are sooo talented it was so fun & lighthearted, cheerful, positive music and the piano player was fantastic!!
It didn't feel Christmassy like I had hoped. No festive holiday stage decorations. Show felt thrown together. Many people seated around us left during the intermission and never came back. It wasn't the performance of the orchestra but more the content of program that was not very appealing.
My son and I had a wonderful time. The musical rendition and narration were outstanding. We plan to attend more concerts in the future.
It was a joy to see New West Symphony perform Four Seasons. The perfect artistry brought tears to my eyes many times. The reading of the poems that inspired Vivaldi's symphonies was an added bonus, and the music embodied each season--I could hear the poem in each piece. It was magical, moving, perfect.
Everyone was so talented & they couldn’t have captured Vivaldi better. The soloist was so incredible, it was east to imagine being in the room when Vivaldi first saw the concertos in his head. The conductor had an amazing voice & it made it special that he read each sonnet with each season. The intro pieces were new to me but I loved them just as much! Great way to build up to the main act. :)
The Troika event was out of this world .. taking me to Russia, both Imperial and Soviet times. Philippe Quint is out of this world. I attend the LA Phil concerts regularly and this concert would be ranked even above these. The violinist .. amazing .. spectacular .. such emotion, skill and theater .. wow! The orchestra was wonderful .. the conductor dynamic and creative .. the mezzo soprano .. such a strong performance .. and the celloists .. somehow stood out as exceptional. We drove over a 100 miles in heavy traffic for this concert and the effort was amply rewarded!!!
John always does a good job of giving some of the background story. Which adds a great meaning and more dimension. The songs were a mixed bag for us. Favorite selection was the West Side story. It was interesting to hear some of the others, which we never heard before. But some did not hit a good chord with us.
