Michigan State Spartans Men's Basketball History
Michigan State University first fielded a men's basketball team in 1898, less than a decade after the sport's invention. By 1957, the school won its first Big Ten title and made its first appearance in the Final Four under coach Forrest "Forddy" Anderson. Michigan State won its first national championship under Jud Heathcote in 1979. Earvin "Magic" Johnson helped lead the Spartans to a 75-64 victory in Salt Lake City against Larry Bird and the Indiana State Sycamores, beginning the legendary decade-long rivalry between the two. In 2000, Mateen Cleaves led the Spartans under Izzo to their second title, defeating the Florida Gators 89-76 in Indianapolis.
Under current coach Tom Izzo, Michigan State has reached new heights in college basketball. The 2018-19 season was especially momentous for the Spartans, with Michigan State winning their sixth conference tournament championship and 15th regular-season conference championship. Coach Izzo won his 600th game on March 15, 2019, defeating Ohio State 77-70 in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. Michigan State went on to reach that Final Four.

Little Cesars Arena is an incredible venue. The staff was so kind, friendly and helpful. The Spartans basketball game was so much fun and just electric. Great atmosphere and experience!
It was a great game but where was everyone? There were entire sections that were empty, why? Oh, I know why. You have priced out the average family.
Great experience, awesome atmosphere at LCA in Detroit! Glad to see our Spartans getting back on track, after going through a slump. Tough road ahead but I have confidence that the team will persevere through the adversity. Go Green Go White!
Fantastic experience seeing Michigan State in Detroit. The only minus was the TERRIBLE announcer. Let's hope they do better next year.
Our first event at the new Acrisure Arena in the Coachella Valley! We had center court seats and talk about a final five minute showdown between Arizona and Michigan State! Great arena and great fans bases to this battle! Congratulations Arizona Wildcats on your tournament Win! BEAR DOWN!
It was a great place to watch basketball! Will be getting tickets for hockey! Going to see Heart Dec 28th wondering about that!
Good experience. Can't wait for another college or NBA basketball game in the valley.
This was my first experience at the Acrishure arena, and I loved it. I'm an MSU alum and was treated to a terrific basketball game featuring two excellent teams. And the arena is in a great location - wide open spaces with spacious parking - and a nice array of vendors.
Great experience all around not a bad seat in the arena from what I could tell.
Awesome except Bass on Music is Terrible !! Everything else excellent especially the W
