Madeon @ Echostage!
by Fernando B Tri on 7/9/24Echostage - WashingtonWe got in around 11pm, Wave Dash was on stage finishing there set, was really hoping their would be a planned transition for Wave Dash to perform with Madeon for All Ur Luv, but didn't happen like I hoped for. Madeon came on around 12:15am. It was labeled as a "DJ Set,"my wife and I are big Madeon fans since 2012 so seeing him in the US without an expensive festival was awesome. tickets were $40 and it was so worth it! Although its a DJ set, Hugo did not disappoint for his true fans playing a lot of his favorites not to mention a live rendition of his initial cause for stardom in playing "Pop Culture"That was an awesome treat, loved it. Always love his song selections, was able to use my Shazam app a lot during his shows because he always plays something I haven't heard before. I've seen his live shows on Youtube, so the only somewhat disappointing thing is you didn't get to see him really perform his songs outside of just playing them, but that was an energy night and he brought it, didn't feel bored at all during his set and he even played 2 hour plus ending his set like a real performance with mostly his songs to end the night and of course his distinguished "happy ending"playing September. It is really a treat watching Hugo perform live. I flew from South Florida to get to Washington D.C to see him at Echo stage. Echo stage really has a following for EDM and at times I felt most folks there were just happy to have a good original DJ, rather than being Madeon fans, but he really did turn a lot of folks on for his love for Daft Punk and French House in general. He added some ELO, some rock songs like Mr. Brightside. It had a very emo feel to it, because he played songs you wanted to sing along too, big difference with some EDM shows where its all lights and bass and less emotional attachment. To me that's Madeon's gift, making you feel songs, offering an emotional experience, but overly an enjoyable one. Like watching a Disney movie and getting that feel good feeling at the end. My wife who spent time in France tells me, "He's so French"in that way, just for the love of life he's happy to be with you, to perform for you, because he loves life. And yes, he is a real performer, he had two accidents but they were accidents you loved to see because he isn't a "push play"and throw your hands up kind of DJ. He plays the crossfade, actually mixes songs. If you have a chance please see Madeon perform. He needs to be a household name! We need another album and see a show like Good Faith at the Red Rocks. best show ever! So happy for Hugo. This was my first time, but definitely not the last.
