Lots of food, drinks, and restrooms. Horrible merch tent. Should have had many small ones rather than one overburdened. Waiting line was at least 500 deep. Watched a guy putting away the shirts I wanted while they made them appear to be sold out. Severely understaffed merch tent. Performers were great. Production seemed to run smoothly and on time.
Early bands like Hatebreed and Knocked Loose got the crowd into it. Till Lindemann still put on a crazy show. When GWAR came on, the crowd really came to life. Their insane stage act got people crowd surfing and moshing. When Slipknot hit, rain started. As they'd slow, so would the weather. It was almost as if they somehow controlled it through musical witchcraft. Unfortunately, it got intense enough the venue would not allow them to do their encore. Still, playing all their old songs was an amazing experience for someone that grew up with this band, in their hometown.
Line to parking was a bit ridiculous as well as the line for buying merchandise. But overall it was a really fun experience.
Great shows. Rain sucked but glad they moved up sets to accommodate the crowd to see all the bands performances.
My experience at Knotfest Iowa 2024 was pretty awesome. I had a good time, even though I didn't watch every band play. The merch line was insanely long throughout the entire festival, people must have really liked the bands playing. I was glad there was water available for free at many stations in Water Works Park. I was disappointed that the medical tent didn't appear to have more than one size of bandages, though. I needed a large one and they only had regular. The security seemed really tight in the description of the event, but it wasn't that bad once I got there. The shuttles were nice, but there wasn't much organization for getting on one after the festival had ended, so I ended up walking all of the way back to my car in the pouring rain. Still kind of fun though! Slipknot ROCKED THE HOUSE????
I'll start with saying the bands were fantastic and put on great shows!! Knocked Loose was a favorite & Hatebreed, Vended, Gwar, Till Lindemann, and of course Slipknot were all fantastic! The crowd was cool & respectful and even met some great metal heads there. Now the negatives....There was only one area to get merch and the line was unimaginably long, so didn't get the shirt that I really wanted. There should have been multiple vendors for merch with that size of a crowd! My big complaint other than the merch debacle was the fact that Slipknot didn't just finish the show. They only had 3 songs left & one is rarely played! IMO There was time to get those 3 songs played without any inherent danger...also the merch tent being closed after was terrible as well. I get that there was alot of cya going on, but we drove over 500 miles to see this & payed hundreds of dollars and came up short because thunderstorms were in the area? It wasn't a tornado of hurricane, so the show should have gone on! Overall, still a fun memorable experience so 4 out of 5 stars. Probably the last time I'll see Slipknot, but 12 times is plenty.
Aside from the fact that they kicked out 20k people for rain and lightning kinda sucked. Otherwise, brilliant performances and setup. Can’t wait for another with better weather
Knotfest was my second music festival I have ever attended, the first for my sister-in-law. Both of us had a great time! Getting to see Swollen Teeth live again, along with getting to interact with them a bit at their signing and meeting AJ from The House of Masks was the BEST part of my whole Knotfest experience! Knotfest was great and my son and I went for I believe we counted our 6th time together now. Slipknot is always so hyped to be in Des Moines and they perform with extreme energy. I love the intensity of the show and the crowd as well. The only downsides for me were the merch booth consistently had such a long line you could never get anything without waiting hours so we didnt and honestly never even saw what all was for sale. Likely the first concert we have attended together and purchased zero souveniers. The other downside was leaving the venue. Its expected and we anticipated it taking a while but it took us an hour to catch a shuttle about another hour or so to shuttle to the parking lot and we sat in the parking lot another hour until people found an alternate exit and then we all started pouring out. As for the front half of that parking lot I cant imagine how long some of them ended up waiting. All in all another great Knotfest and Slipknot killed it. The weather cut them a little short but it was fun and nobody can control the weather!!
The show was very well put together. The Porta pottys were incredibly clean and well maintained, the best I've been in at any festival or show I've been too! The merch line was a little long but it's to be expected at a show. There were a decent mumber shuttles from the parking lot to the venue so you weren't waiting in line forever and they moved people through security quickly. They brought in more buses when expecting bad weather and did their best to get everyone out in a safe and timely manner. I would see a show at this Venue again and attended Knotfest again!
