Girl from the North Country is a vehicle for traveling through time by means of Bob Dylan tunes. It delivers on that, and as the review title notes, the cast is filled with talented singers. The story is weak and the depression-era setting naturally depressing, so enjoy it for the trip down memory lane through the music.
The actors had beautiful voices and the song renditions were excellent. The venue (Phoenix, AZ...Gammage) was horrible. The building design is such that the balcony was very, very high rather than far, far, far away from the stage. If anyone has issues with heights, the balcony is not a pleasant place to be. Even without issues, the strain on one's neck in order to see the stage was too much. Also, the acoustics were so bad that we and all of those around us could not understand ALL of the spoken words, so we missed out on a lot of laughs and the storyline/plot. But the singing was great!
The singing and acting were fine. The story was not inspiring, and the characters were not very likeable. Loved performances of Hurricane, Like a Rolling Stone, and Forever Young. Most of the other songs were Dylan’s lesser known works, and I missed the title song completely. Cannot recommend it.
It was super cool how they interwove Dylan’s songs throughout the show.
Not my favorite. The cadence, pitch, and speed of the dialog was off putting to me. Also lots of stories going on. The singing was beautiful, soulful and very well executed. I enjoyed that part very much. I would not recommend it to my friends though.
The show was wonderful. Excellent voices from a great company!!!! Worth seeing..
The cast was phenomenal! The singing voices were incredible and the story was told with passion. The comedic turns kept a pleasant balance with the serious content of the story.
The story line was less than enthralling with an ending that just stopped without a real wrapup, the music was hard to recognize as Bob Dylan's, and the overall acoustics were bad. It was extremely hard to hear what the actors were saying. We were not the only ones to notice this. Everyone had a hard time hearing.
The singing was amazing. Great actors but the play was odd. I still don’t know who “the girl “ is ???
My wife and I both decided we could have left the show 10 minutes in and not really missed anything. The individual actors were obviously talented; however, the show was depressing, poorly written and failed to entertain us at all. The sound in the venue, despite us having good seats, was so low we could barely hear the actors. The parking which I paid for in advance was almost impossible to find both before and after the show. Overall, a very unsatisfactory experience.
