Drug Church on Tour
Revolver magazine calls Drug Church's 2022 album, Hygiene, "ridiculously fun." This is also an apt description of their live performances showcasing their high-energy, guitar-fueled anthems.
Drug Church, the highly seasoned post-hardcore/punk band, famously led by Patrick Kindlon (also of Self Defense Family), offers up lightning-speed guitar chords and often wryly written song lyrics. The energy level is kept at a constant high, conducive to the crowd's propensity for mosh-pitting and stage diving. Every Drug Church performance is a sonic thrill ride delivering on the promise of ridiculous fun.
Drug Church Live in Concert
Drug Church was formed in 2011 in Albany, New York. The band consists of Patrick Kindlon on vocals, Cory Galusha on guitar, Nick Cogan on guitar, Patrick Wynne on bass, and Chris Villeneuve on drums.
In a 2016 interview with Substream Magazine, Kindlon said the band's name came from a list they created of the worst band names. They pulled five or 10 things from the list and came up with Drug Church.? The guys loved it and say it's helped call attention to them.
Drug Church released a straightforward, self-titled EP with No Sleep Records in July 2012 and quickly followed with a quirky, metal-tinged take on actor Paul Walker's life with the 2013 album Paul Walker, released just four months before the actor died in a car crash. In late 2015, the band released their second full-length album, Hit Your Head.
After signing with Pure Noise Records, they released the critically acclaimed album Cheer in 2018. Kindlon attributes some of the success of Cheer to better sound engineering and marketing, thanks to Pure Noise. After a pandemic-induced break, the band came back on the scene in mid-2021 with a four-song EP, Tawny, meant to be the warm-up for the 2022 release of Hygiene with Pure Noise.
Kindlon's writing style is unique -- he doesn't write a word until the band is in the studio, saying in an interview with bandcamp that he prefers the pressure. His bandmates write the music sans lyrics, making sure it's exciting enough to stand on its own instrumentally, and Kindlon hops in with lyrics as it's just coming together. Not conventional, but according to their legions of fans, it works.
