About Cincinnati Music Festival?
Cincinnati is proud of its rich musical history. Most notably, the Queen City was home to the storied label King Records, whose imprint, Federal, issued the hit single "Please, Please, Please" from James Brown's first band, the Famous Flames.?
It's quite fitting, then, that Cincinnati is also home to the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G, one of the longest-running (and most successful) R&B and soul concerts in the U.S. Cofounded by promoter Dino Santangelo and George Wein initially as a jazz-focused festival, the multi-day event now consistently draws the genre's biggest names. For example, Brown eventually performed at the event — as have other soul and R&B luminaries, including Whitney Houston and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, along with Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Maxwell, and Ella Fitzgerald.
The Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G dates back to 1962, when it launched as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. The inaugural year of the fest boasted amazing talent — to name a few players, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. The event moved around a bit in its early years, first from the Carthage Fairgrounds to Crosley Field — where, in 1964, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, and Dizzy Gillespie performed — and later from there to Riverfront Stadium, before the event eventually settled in to its current location of Paul Brown Stadium. Along the way, the concert expanded its focus to include soul, R&B, and even hip-hop, which grew its audience even more.
The festival also became known for many years as the Macy's Music Festival before being rechristened the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G in 2015. What hasn't changed, however, is a commitment to booking top-notch talent that reaches multiple generations of music fans in Cincinnati and beyond.?
This year was the best festival in a long time. My husband and I enjoyed it immensely.
Cincinnati Music Fest was a flop this year. Particularly the venue. No crowd control, no exits for people sitting on main floor, lack of concession options. Boring during music sets. No DJ.
The only criticism would be, that if we not in the front couple of rows, the stage had several blind spots and was hidden by equipment.
I enjoyed the entire weekend. I just hated the stage set up.
The performers were awesome, but there were issues I emailed to that organization.. It really was a good time especially Saturday and I will go back based on who’s performing.
Me and the wife had a great time and I mean a great time singing dancing it was our first trip to the festival definitely won’t be our last already excited for next year’s
Overall the performers was great. The couple issues I had for the reason of not giving 5 stars was the sound system wasn't great at all. During one of the performances the right side of the system went down for at least 1 minute. Then during intermention the DJ's didn't keep the crowd going. And the stage set up wasn't the best. I'm not sure what that big podium was in the middle of the stage. I did like all the outside food vendors.
The only artist I honestly didn't enjoy was Coco Jones and that's only because I simply had never heard of her. She has a beautiful voice but I couldn't sing not one song. . Kem and New Edition made up for it. I love how much of each artist you get. My only complaint is the weed smoking. It's getting worse each year.
The Talent is always great, Really good show ,But they need to do a better Job of letting folks know exactly where the stage will be setup ,Last two online stage doesn't match up with the setup, which is mis leading when you buy tickets
There were 2 stages but if you were too far away you could see one stage or the other from the ground. The line up was cool it was the order of the line up… CoCo should have went first, that is not her crowd so we definitely only knew one or two is her songs. I was upset when EnVogue replaced SWV, but I hadn’t seen them yet so I wasn’t too upset. No one’s set seemed too rush so that was definitely a good thing, cost of parking was way too high. The atmosphere was cool… Stokley was the opening act and it was awesome very exciting, Envogue the ladies still sound and look good even when the mic went out they were still very professional, even though the festival wasn’t really CoCo’s crowd she did good I have actually downloaded some of her songs because of it.. she should have has a life band like everyone else. Kem he sounded just like his CD… Now New Edition whew chile, them men know they still got it overall I will continue to support/come too the festival… maybe they should add a meet and greet …. Can’t wait to see the lineup for 2025
