It was a bit warm as expected but the two of us had 64 bass, 8 bluegill (3 were toads!), and a big crappie. Good morning and a solid evening bite though not too many on topwater this time. Hookup Baits, Spark Shads, Picklekicks, and a small Rapala crankbait did most of the catching, and some fish on topwater too. Boat ran great. No complaints!
All was ok until the motor refused to start. I test-started the motor before putting all my stuff. Started & ran fine. I had returned to the dock to get my sunscreen, as I slowed to tie up, the motor began sputtering and misfiring heavily. I tied up. got the sunscreen and returned to the boat. It wouldn't start. One of the people at the dock came and tried. It would not start. I had to switch boats. That one ran well all day. While I was at the dock, 2 guys came in, they said their motor kept dying. Their problem was clear to me. There was only steam coming out of the water jet. Those guys also switched boats. I saw them later. Their replacement boat was running fine too. That stuff happens sometimes. This is the problem. At the end of the day I reported the (2) boats that failed. The dock worker said "I just started them, they're fine" They are not fine. This means that other guests are going to get stranded too. Apart from dying motors and indifferent dock workers, all was as expected.

Arrive at Barrett around 6:40am…there was no line.we got out float tube all geared up and we were off at about 7:15…..we started fishing in the cove at the boat dock a managed to catch about 8 or 9 bass over there…..from there we travelled straight across and picked 3-5lb bass all day, we fished just off the grass lines and rocky points…..Senkos were the ticket for us…..my Son wacky rigged his and Texas rig for me….went through four 10 packs of Senkos……nothing on the moving baits or top water
Beautiful Lake! Clear Water! Bass everywhere! Caught Over 40 bass. Half of them 3-5lbs. Great time!
Unless you were with the pre-season survey (obtained by lottery) OR the pre-season Fly fishing (one day only in late April and hadn't happened as of 4/9) then you were poaching and fishing out of season. Don't be that guy. The usual staff who helpedanage Barrett are retiring. New ones have less time/interest to protect this fishery for our use. It's not only your water. And it can go away. Be a man and respect the rules so others can enjoy this place for generations to come.
Got on the lake at the first peak of light fished until night and caught 3. The 200 fish day is a lie, its would be impossible at 3 to 5 min a fish. Do the math.
I heard stories of 100 fish days...we caught 12. Lake was bigger than I expected. Nothing on top water or casting the banks initially. Water was high. Trolled off the bank across from dock with 5-10 ft Cranks Rapala DT-5 and Strike King DT 3, 6. (all shad colors). Picked up 2 lb Crappie. We continued to troll and cast at main lake points and still were getting nothing. Then we saw the birds...follow the birds, find the bait, find the school. Got at least 10 two to three pound fish with deep cranks in 8-12 ft. Worked the heck out of the shore. Nothing on spinner baits/keitech/texas rigged. Only crank baits worked. Very cool experience. Hope to go in May or September!
