Arlo Parks in Concert
Arlo Parks is as candid onstage as she is on record, and it's one of her many charms. Shortly after releasing her acclaimed debut EP at age 18, the singer-songwriter performed her first gig at the 2019 Great Escape Festival, an annual three-day event held in Brighton, England, that showcases some of the country's most promising new talents. Backed by a band of talented musicians as young as Parks, she wowed the crowd with her silky croons, groovy sounds, and the maturity and confidence of an artist well beyond her years. Just a month later, she appeared on the BBC Music Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival, and by early 2020, Parks was already preparing for her first headlining tour through Europe.
About Arlo Parks
Arlo Parks' velvety mix of bedroom pop, indie folk, jazz, and R&B is like a warm, comforting hug when you need it most. Born Anais Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho in Hammersmith, West London, the singer/poet/producer is a powerful voice for Generation Z, as she lays out her frustrations, fears, and insecurities in poetic wordplay and wraps it all in smooth, groovy melodies. Growing up in West London, Parks was exposed to a wide range of sounds — Massive Attack, Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu, My Chemical Romance, the jazz her father played at home — and literary influences, from Sylvia Plath to Aldous Huxley. Her stage name came from two different inspirations: a King Krule interview (where she came up with Arlo) and a day at the park with a friend (hence Parks). By age 18, she had written, produced, and released her debut single "Cola," a bass-y, lo-fi pop gem. The song landed her a deal with London indie record label Transgressive Records, which released her 2019 debut EP Super Sad Generation. Within a month, Parks was performing on festival stages, eventually making it to Glastonbury in June. Her second EP, Sophie, arrived in late 2019 and she found herself on BBC's coveted Sound of 2020 list. She continues to live up to the hype, dropping more devastating confessions with songs like "Black Dog," in which she tackles the topic of mental health. With Parks, the darkest subject matter is transformed into the coziest of songs.
i loved every second!!! thanks for coming arlo! hope to see you again ????
SUCH a great show, both arlo & chloe played fantastic sets and the energy in the crowd was so much fun!
I didn't like that you had to wait two hours for the main artist to come on stage. Instead, in the email, it should have said doors at 7p, opening act 8p, Arlo at 9p. Times were misleading. Also $40 for parking is outrageous. It cost almost as much for the ticket itself. I loved Arlo Parks though, nothing to change there! She is amazing.
Ones of the best concerts of my life, she is absolutely amazing.
one of the best shows ive ever been to !! went with a friend of mine and we had such a good time. arlo and her band brought the energy and hyped up the crowd so much. shes such an amazing singer and just as great of a performer,, def recommend <333
The sound was really terrible. It was a giant mush or noise. It was a shame because Arlo is one of my favorite artists.
This was my first time at the Belasco. Every spot is a good spot. They opened doors on time and everything ran so smoothly. I can't wait to see more shows here.
Arlo's energetic delivery enhances the live experience by taking her music from super mellow to bringing the party to the floor. Same music, same lyrics but her dancing and delivery are so much more immediate and cracking with energy. My thought halfway through the show was "I forgot how GOOD she is!" Arlo's been gifted a magical voice that suits her style and music well. At 22 years old, she is destined to gift us her talents for many years. Seriously, how can you not LOVE her?
Her vibe is the most welcoming, lovely, and inclusive. I was absolutely obsessed with both Del Water Gap and Arlo Parks.
I saw her at Radio City Music Hall a couple nights ago! She opened for Clairo and was absolutely amazing. She just had such an amazing energy and was so committed. While I do understand that performers can be fatigued from doing countless shows, Arlo did not in any way hold back or show any sign of this at all. Such an amazing performance and I would definitely go see her again!
