These classically-trained musicians have definitely found their groove, and it lies somewhere in between rock and Rachmaninoff. Jon Schmidt (piano), Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) Paul Anderson (production, videography) and Al Van Der Beek (production, songwriting), a.k.a. The Piano Guys, are more than just a musical act, they are a multi-media production team. Through innovative musical composition, cutting-edge technology, and a dash of humor, The Piano Guys produce entertaining videos (oftentimes shot in breathtaking locales) of themselves performing their own rendition of popular songs, classical compositions, movie soundtracks and more—at times enlisting the help of talented guest vocalists. With YouTube as their portal, their videos have received hundreds of millions of views—pretty impressive for a fun-loving crew whose original intent was merely to showcase the instruments for sale at Anderson’s small piano shop. Initially shocked by their overwhelming success, they’re now making the most of their time in the spotlight by embarking on a mission to “make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world.”? Among their most widely viewed videos is “Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Lightsaber Duel,” “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” and their covers of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.”? When The Piano Guys announced that a LIVE concert tour was in the works, eager fans anticipated the chance to buy tickets to what promises to be a stunning onstage spectacle of sight and sound.
So moving, engaging and talented! We love them every time we attend their concert. Such wonderful musicians and people!!
The Piano Guys gave a great concert! We had a decent view of the stage, and they also had two large screens above the stage which alternated between the live show and Piano Guys videos. Of course, the music was fantastic, but Jon and Steven also told stories and had some fun while one stage.
First time seeing the piano guys live. Tickets were close. We could hear and see everything. We were blown away by the experience. Loved it.
Took my son who loves to play the piano and introduced us to piano guys music many years ago. It was everything we could have hoped for. Jon and Steve were entertaining while showcasing their amazing talent. It was a wonderful night.
What they played was very good. But they talked and talked and talked way too much. Connect to your audience with your music, not your stories.
The Piano Guys concert was incredible, showcasing their extraordinary musical talents on the piano and cello! The musical duo played many unique arrangements that displayed their creativity throughout the concert. Besides beautiful music and videos, they also mixed in humor to make for a very entertaining concert! We hope to see them again at DPAC!
The Piano Guys was one of my most favorite performances ever! Sharing some of their life experiences and encouraging young beginner musicians enhanced their performance. So genuine!! Can’t wait for them to tour this way again. Not to be missed!
Wasn’t sure what to expect but end up really loving this show. Very entertaining both from a humor and musical perspective. I would definitely see The Piano Guys again in a heartbeat.
The Piano Guys are amazing musicians who create a fun filled evening combining classical and popular music to create spectacular melodies for all ages. The use of the huge projector screen as a backdrop adds stunning visuals complmenting your over all sensory experience. I saw them in concert about 10 years ago at the Philadelphia Mann Amphitheater and throughly enjoyed the experience. This evenings experience was even more enjoyable.
I have seen the Piano Guys perform several times and I have never been disappointed. Their musical skill is enviable and they always love engaging with their audience. One of my favorite pieces among many is Fight Song because they use local pipers to participate which is always soul stirring for me. Their videography is stunning. I highly recommend going to one of their concerts if you have never seen them.
