I went to this show expecting Scale The Summit to blow me away. Instead, Silver Snake and The Atlas Moth stole the show. Don't get me wrong: STS were musically and technically brilliant. But, the less complex and more emotionally engaging music of Silver Snake and The Atlas Moth won me over quickly.
Silver Snake remind me of ULTRAMEGAOK era Soundgarden (you know, before they wussed out). Driven by Mike Trujillo's thumping bass lines, the band put on a solid set of original music that pumped up a lazy crowd.
The Atlas Moth was second. They blend doom metal and metalcore with classic rock mainstays (you MUST hear their version of "California Dreamin;") They had entranced for a 45 minute set. I was so impressed I had to have more and bought two of their CDs and force my new found enjoyment on anyone I can corner long enough.
Scale The Summit was third and played 75 minutes of technically brilliant instrumental prog-metal, but it left me frustrated. I found it hard to get excited over their set. Nice guys, amazing players, but a bit boring.
The Ocean were sans a bassist, but put on a great set, though i would have loved to have heard some from their FOGDIVER EP. Still, a great set
