The Greeting Committee in Concert
You have to respect a band that lands in the lineup of one of the highest profile music festivals while having just five published songs to their name — all while its members are still in high school. This is only the beginning of The Greeting Committee's story, which has them jumping from high school talent show stars to Lollapalooza darlings in just under a few years. But when you hear the Kansas City, Missouri quartet's bright, jangly indie pop, you'll understand why — it's easy to be turned on by their charm.
The foursome — vocalist/guitarist Addison Sartino, guitarist Brandon Yangmi, bassist Pierce Turcotte, and drummer Austin Fraser — came together in 2014 as high school students. After playing small gigs around Kansas City and self-releasing their debut EP, ‘It's Not All That Bad,' they caught the attention of local radio host Lazlo Geiger, from 96.5 The Buzz. He helped them secure a manager, a tour, and eventually a record deal with Los Angeles-based label Harvest Records, home to indie favorites like Best Coast, TV on the Radio, and Banks.?
The label re-released the band's debut EP in October 2015. With the help of sweet and sunny lead single, "Hands Down," which quickly generated over 10 million streams, The Greeting Committee soon landed a slot at the 2016 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, as well as that year's Lollapalooza. They also scored opening spots on tours with bands like The Mowgli's, Tennis, and MisterWives, and began growing a bigger following thanks to their raw and dynamic performances. Their 2017 sophomore EP, ‘Meeting People Is Easy,' would showcase an even more mature sound, infused with touches of sax.
Fully transitioning from teenagers to adults, the band would set off on a 2018 tour with Jukebox The Ghost before releasing their anticipated full-length debut, ‘This Is It,' in October 2018. This would have them heading back out on the road in 2019, alongside Canadian rockers the Arkells.
The GC and their opener were great performers! I’ve been listening to their music for a while and even still the songs I didn’t know were so easy to enjoy. Very talented and great show
The band kept me dancing their entire set! Will be seeing them again asap!!
I considered making an instagram acc after not having one for years solely as a fan acc for these people. like. i have seen the 1975 on their UGH! tour and gvf anthem of the peaceful army tour and this concert easily topped both. delmar hall is a lovely venue and i <3 stl 4 lyfe but like it could have been the worst venue in the worst city and it still would have been the best experience since i got my braces off. i swear she and i made eye contact and sang to each other a few times and i just- what i wouldn’t give to be the girl she misses in kansas city. always buy these tickets. 12/10 would rec.
i cant even begin to express in words how special and powerful this show was. the performance and music itself was top notch. the part where addie stopped the whole show because a few people passed out so she and the band could hand out a bunch of waters to everyone who wanted one. and also being able to see a band that went to my high school play an almost sold out show in their hometown was just so wonderful ???? thank u, the greeting committee
Incredible first concert experience! This was my younger sisters first concert, and I was blown away by their interaction with the crowd both during and before the show! Their stage presence overall was awsome! I've never experienced performers pause the show to ensure the audience was taken care of, and I thought it was incredibly admirable seeing them take time and make what was needed accessible to their fans. Seriously one of the best concerts I've been to!
The band was so cheerful and enthusiastic! When people stopped feeling well they even stopped the show to help them.
they were absolutely AMAZING!! i loved their show and the fact that they were local made it all the more better. this band is now one of my favorites!! so glad i came
Great band, excellent venue! What else is there to say?
The Greeting Committee absolutely rocked it!!! The entire crowd was hyped up and hanging on every note. Watching Addie Sartino on stage and work the crowd is by far one of the most entertaining concert experiences you will get! The entire band is all full of energy! It puts to shame the performers who need all the gimmicks to keep the audience entertained. They are the type of rock band that keeps you on your toes and loving every second!
Wow this concert was amazing!! It was honestly one of the best that I’ve ever gone to. Addie Sartino is one of the most talented and entertaining performers. I cried, I laughed, I sung my heart out. 10/10 would recommend.
