Tape Face Live
With his electric-shock hairstyle, striped shirt and strip of black tape across his mouth, the performer known as Tape Face can't help but leave an impression on audiences. Yet what makes this modern-day master of mime and comedy truly remarkable is the wonder, whimsy and weirdness that fill his one-of-a-kind performances.
Tape Face's appearances on America's Got Talent in 2016 introduced wider audiences to this New Zealand talent. Tape Face is the creation of Sam Wills, who began his performing career as an aspiring clown while a teenager. Drawing from his love of circus, vaudeville and prop comedy, he developed a character that took the art of mime in bold new directions. A hit at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2008, Wills' show The Boy with Tape on His Face marked the first major success for the stage persona that he'd later present at such events as the BBC Comedy Prom at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Shortening his name to Tape Face, Wills became one of the standout performers on season 11 of America's Got Talent, advancing to the finals without ever speaking a word. The viral success of his performances led to his first headlining appearances on the Las Vegas Strip. After two hit limited engagements, he began a multiyear residency at Harrah's Las Vegas in 2018. Visitors to the specially built House of Tape will discover a show like nothing else on the Strip.
Tape Face Background
A modern-day master of mime and comedy, Tape Face is the silent stage alter ego of New Zealand's Sam Wills. Wills' signature creation began in his youth in the town of Timaru, where he studied the art of clowning and other performance traditions. After moving to the Christchurch area and establishing himself in New Zealand's comedy scene, he combined elements of circus performing, vaudeville, and prop and shock comedy to create his unique brand of entertainment.
In 2008, Wills introduced Australian audiences to the instantly indelible title character of The Boy with Tape on His Face, a show that became a breakout at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He also gained fans in the U.K. when he performed the character on TV shows and at live events such as the BBC Comedy Prom in London's Royal Albert Hall and the iconic Royal Variety Performance.
Tape Face's hilarious routines and feats on season 11 of America's Got Talent made Wills' creation a viral phenomenon and an international sensation. On the heels of his AGT performances and his live and TV appearances in many countries, Wills came to Las Vegas for two hit engagements at Harrah's Las Vegas in 2017. The following year, he began his residency at the specially built House of Tape.
Meet and greet was soooo worth it! Amazing show!!!
Tape Face was great. Had us laughing all night. Glad we got to see him in person. If you want to have fun, this is your show. Go see it!
The warm-up (for the 30 mins before the showtime) was so eye-rollingly bad I was nervous about the show... But I didn't need to be. Tape Face was hilarious. A really odd act (a guy with duct tape over his mouth), Tape Face uses props and constant audience participation for some of the most fun you'll have in 75 minutes (at least in public). He really knows how to work a crowd (much better than most comedians who talk during their act!), and you should be prepared to throw any embarrassment to the wind if he picks you. (I was picked to be in a backup singer bit and had a blast hamming it up onstage with him). Nearly all the audience members in my group played along beautifully and had a ton of fun. My (adult) son was jealous I got picked... Don't think about it... Just go... (And just roll your eyes and put up with the warm up...)
If you liked watching Tape Face on AGT, you'll love this show! Small theater which allows you to see Tape Face's expressions. My two teenage daughters, my 70 year old mother, and I were thoroughly impressed! Our show started at 7 pm and we're allowed to select seats at 6:30. Glad we were there early to see the "pre-show". Unless you want to be right up front, I personally wouldn't spend the extra $ for VIP seating. All the seats seem to have great visibility. At the end of the show, Tape Face allows pictures to be taken with him for FREE. He seems like a great guy and someone worthy of fan support!
Very entertaining and will definitely recommend to families and friends to see. I would suggest if you could have comfortable chairs and better spacing between chairs.
If you want to laugh the whole show, then this is the show for you. Tapeface was amazing and funny. Be prepared to be part of the act. Totally worth it to get a VIP ticket. Not a good show for the littles though but not to vulgar. But definitely an adult show. We will go back and see him again when we go back to Las Vegas ??
Very good show. He picked people from audience for I believe every skit. And not just the front, he searched people out everywhere
Although the show was funny, it was disappointing that it wasn’t Sam Wills but someone else dressed up as the character. There should be a disclaimer so you can decide if you want to spend $128 a person (VIP price) to see an impersonator...
Hilarious!!! How does he think of such crazy things to do with his audience??? Communicates well - didn’t need his microphone. ?? Glad we did the VIP experience.
Tape Face was awesome!! The audience participation was great and everyone that was picked played along!! Haven't laughed so much in a long time.. Highly recommend seeing this show!
I purchased VIP seats which means we were to be seated in one of the first 5 or so rows GA but up close. We arrived at 7:45 and the small theater was packed and there was a pre-show going on which I knew nothing about. The host showed us to some seats in the very back row. "NO, i paid for VIP". He went into frantic mode as there was nothing left. I was asked if I bought my tickets at the last minute? "NO, a couple of weeks ago". I was eventually offered 4 seats that were not together or I could sit in that back row and be given a partial refund. Turns out our seats were sold out from under us by the box office at the last minute. So we spent the entire show behind tall heads, up against a wall trying to see around people. Shame on this theater. I give this a 4 star rating only because of the poor management of the theater.
Excellent show, it is amazing how he is able to make you laugh so hard without saying a single word. Highly recommended!
Loved the show. It was even funnier then on America’s Got Talent. Would definitely go again.
...I saw him both times when he competed on AGT and was rooting for him. He didn't win there, but did land a show in Vegas and for that, I was definitely happy for him. I went to see him April 6th weekend and the show was pretty good. Personally I feel he could have been more effective if he had a 30 minute opening comedy act to supplement his show. I think I would have enjoyed his show more if I had to wait through an opening act. Though he is the greatest thus far at his craft, in addition to being super innovative with his whole "Tape Face" act (it is difficult making people laugh when speaking and he did all of this without saying a word), he still could benefit from an opening act. It will have his audience more appreciative of what he does. Lastly, he stood outside of a small venue and wouldn't even take a photo with his fans; the people who put money in his pockets. I don't know the reasoning, therefore I won't judge, but let's face it, without fans, entertainers wouldn't be where they are today. He should at least take a photo with his people from time to time (special events, birthdays, etc. at the least). Despite all, I hope he continues and he gains more notoriety and his act blows up with success! Great job and good luck!!!
Great show, he is very entertaining. lots of audience participation. highly recommend. vey funny.
Tape Boy was extremely kind and considerate towards his meet and greet fans. What a down to earth soul. The show was funny, funny, funny and worth every penny at twice the price.
My family DID enjoy the show and we drove about 90 minutes to see the Ft. Lauderdale show. It was a good show, BUT , 3/4 of it were the AGT or YouTube bits that we've seen before. Other, new, bits took a very long time to set up for the joke. TF also was constantly and noticeably wiping his brow/neck/head with a towel like he had the flu. Some "classics" Oven Mitts, Horse Race, "Ghost" Clay, Michael Jackson, Stapler Cowboys, Soccer Ball Puppet, Lady in Red. , Another distraction was the time TF spent running to the back of the hall to select his participants. He also tossed in a few crude gestures and adult-themed sight gags and I could feel the (many) parents in the room cringe, because the jokes just didn't fit with the rest of the family-friendly vibe. Finally, it felt like a long show; "Oven Mitts" and "Horse Race" in particular seemed rushed and phoned-in. His finale, which I dare not spoil, was very good.
Love Tape Face! His show was excellent and very comical. He interactived so well with audience. I highly recommend it.
I laughed nearly the whole time! What a great show, down to earth and fully entertaining! If you want a great night out, do it, see him!
Tapeface is an amazing and creative talent. This show was suitable for all ages.... the mildly racy parts went right over my 8 year old daughter's head because he moves so quickly and is so silly. The finale was UNBELIEVABLY entertaining and the best part was Tapeface waited outside and met with everyone who waited in line to take a picture with him. I would go see him again and again!
