STATE CHAMPS IN CONCERT:
New York pop punkers State Champs have been rocking fans with their emotional songwriting and prize-worthy live performances since forming in 2010. They’ve toured with big names like All Time Low and 5 Seconds of Summer, and it’s easy to see why as they tear through adrenaline-filled anthems like “Remedy” and “Elevated” in concert. In addition to their hard-hitting songs, State Champs also have a softer side, and they’re just as impressive when frontman Derek DiScanio takes things down a notch to deliver tender tracks like “If I’m Lucky”. Whether they’re turning out distorted guitar feedback or waxing acoustic, State Champs always give ticket buyers a first-rate concert experience chock-full of heart-on-sleeve pop punk goodness.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
State Champs was formed in Albany, NY in 2010 by singer Derek DiScanio and guitarist Tyler Szalkowski. After assembling the rest of the band they released two EPs in late 2010/early 2011, and in 2012 they signed with California-based pop punk imprint Pure Noise Records. They made their debut on the label that same year with the 7" Overslept, which they recorded with producer Jay Maas (Defeater, Transit). After that release they began work on their full-length debut, which arrived in 2013 as the critically acclaimed effort The Finer Things. The album was a hit, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart and leading to extensive touring alongside bands like Motion City Soundtrack, Bayside, and The Wonder Years. Following stints on the 2014 Vans Warped Tour and the Pure Noise Records Tour, State Champs returned to the studio to record their second full-length album, a highly anticipated release that their loyal fans can’t wait to experience in concert.
Band and venue were great! Openers were highlights too!
The lead singer of the band I went to see was blasted and progressively drinking more onstage. Was funny though watching him fight the mic stand. It wasn't state champs btw.
Upon entering security made me throw away my little Swiss Army knife keychain, which was a bummer, but at least they allowed me to take my purse in! (Other venues have required that I check it in AND they charged me for it) State Champs was amazing! And the crowd was crazy!! I’ve been to a few other shows similar to this one but I’ve never seen so much crowd surfing in my life lol. I had two friends with me, who had only heard one song from the band, and they loved it and are ready for the next show. The energy & music - it was all great. My friends and I are so glad we went and can’t wait for the next show!! Hopefully they will come to ATLANTA next time!!
Everything about this experience was outstanding! Great venue with friendly staff. State Champs did not disappoint. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you haven’t seen them in concert yet!
I catch them every time they come to Arizona and it feels like every time the show gets better/more hype than before. This goes in the books as one of he funnest concerts I’ve ever been to!
They put on a amazing show . The bands that opened for them were damn good also !
It was my first concert and I am more than happy with how it turned out! The music was great, the performances were fantastic! Definitely makes me want to purchase tickets to another as soon as possible! It’s a night I will remember!
State Champs was amazing! They really know how to get the crowd riled up and always looking forward to the next song, hoping their set never ends. Not to mention the bands before them did a great job as well.
State Champs played 19 songs! The venue was great & the band rocked the crowd! Excellent space throughout the venue for fans to enjoy the concert. State Champs in the state capital of South Carolina was phenomenal!
I didn't think anyone could beat slipknot...boy was i wrong on that. They are my favorite band to see live now
Hot Mulligan was amazing as was State Champs. The crowd really seemed equally into both bands which was really cool to see. I would love to see either of these bands again.
I got there around 10am, my group being first in line. So I decided to pick stage left on barricade. Its always such a fun time seeing state champs, I believe this was lucky number 13, love the energy, love the vibes. An all in all GREAT time.
We got barricade, really enjoyed the openers, and even caught a guitar pick from Tyler at the end. This was my second time seeing them and I plan on seeing them many many more
Absolutely fantastic. They put on an amazing show and you wish it never ends!
The venue is beautiful! Mike, Mercedes and Oscar...everyone I had conract with....are awesome!
The venue is beautiful! The staff is awesome...especially Mike, Mercedes and Oscar.
State Champs always put on a phenomenal live show and did not disappoint. The bands requirement of vaccination or testing proof made it feel much safer to attend an event of this kind.
Every time I’ve ever seen champs live they’ve been nothing but amazing and this time was no different. Great show!
State Champs always delivers!!! Great setlist, amazing performance, all incredible. They have 4 other acts touring with them. Three are amazing and I would see any of them solo.
Overall the show was FANTASTIC- staff got us in quick even in the rain and the performers were great. Special shoutout to security who quickly got me to the medical staff when I unfortunately cut open my head and had a nice bruiser. Also a huge shoutout to Ben & Mike on the medical staff who quickly, professionally, and calmly fixed me up so I can enjoy the rest of the show. BIG THUMBS DOWN to Craig on the medical staff (who I believe was in charge). He was unprofessional, rude, and made me extremely uncomfortable while under their care. The way he also treated his staff between the way he spoke and what he said was a SHAME! Instead of arguing with your employees, let them treat their patient and deal with your own problems. Crossing my fingers I do not need medical treatment while at this venue again because I do not want to deal with Craig again. I hope this message gets relayed to the medical company.
