St. Louis Cardinals History
The St. Louis Cardinals franchise was founded in 1882 as part of the American Association before joining the National League for the 1892 season. Prior to becoming known as the Cardinals in 1900, the team was called the Brown Stockings, then simply the Browns, as well as the Perfectos. The Cardinals have built one of the best resumes in baseball, winning a National League record-11 World Series championships, 19 NL Pennants and 15 division titles between the NL East and NL Central.
Over the years, the Cardinals have boasted Hall of Fame-caliber players such as Dizzy Dean, Bob Gibson, Whitey Herzog, Stan Musial, Lou Brock and Ozzie "The Wizard" Smith. In the modern era, St. Louis has featured three-time MVP Albert Pujols and 2022 MVP first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.?
