About
Sham 69 are a punk rock band founded in 1975 in Hersham, Surrey by Jimmy Pursey, Neil Harris, Albie Slider, Billy Bostik and Johnny Goodfornothing. The band’s first three albums, Tell Us the Truth (1978), That’s Life (1978) and The Adventures of the Hersham Boys (1979), all charted in the Top 40 in the UK, with the latter peaking at No. 8. After the release of their 1980 fourth album The Game, the members of Sham 69 went their separate ways to start other projects. In 1987, Pursey and Dave Parsons reformed Sham 69 with new members, including Ian Whitewood on drums, and released Volunteer. In 1999 Sham 69 scored five consecutive Top 20 singles with “Angels With Dirty Faces,” “If the Kids Are United,” “Hurry up Harry,” “Questions and Answers” and “Hersham Boys.” They continued to release albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s and in 2006 Parsons announced that the band was parting ways from Pursey. Parsons and Whitewood continued as Sham 69 with Tim V on vocals. They played festivals across Europe and toured Australia, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand and China. The band have since gone through several more lineup changes and continued to release new music. The current lineup consists of Ian Whitewood, Tim V, Paul Brightman and Tom Austin-Morgan on bass.
