My party of 17 LOVED Julian. He was AMAZING. Erica was a bit slower, drier humor that we didn't ever completely warm up to.
It was a lot of fun (and a lot of laughter) until the "headliner" Esther Povitsky got on stage. She was incredibly unprepared and was constantly looking at her phone just to remember her own jokes. Jokes that were very unfunny. She opened her mouth and the laughter left all of us. To be fair, a chuckle or tow may have occurred, but neither of us would never see her again and we would recommend against her to anyone. Thankfully, we did enjoy Tone Bell, so it wasn't a total loss.
Me and two friends went to the 7pm show. The main comedians were hilarious as was the female host and female guest comedian, butcher was her last name. She was the funniest of the night. We had a great time and were smiling and laughing pretty much the entire show. The only issue I had and why I'm giving four stars instead of 5 was because of the bouncer/security guard. The final comedian was doing his thing, and during this part of his act he was interacting with audience and asking us to shout out to him. So my girlfriend shouts out to him, and the bouncer walks over and attempts to "shush" her. We were like yes can we help you? The comedian ended up conversing with her more. But for him to come over to us like we were out of line was rude and disrespectful. Other than that guy, who kind of brought down the mood for a moment, (I think he was a taller bald white guy working the back door near the bathrooms) the show was great!
The opening act was super funny. The sets went downhill from there. Second act was very good. I was sad she brought her notes on stage. By the time you're in the big leagues shouldn't the crib notes stay at home? She was pretty funny, though. The last guy wasn't really funny at all. Just kinda weird and crazy. Does that count as funny? I don't think so. As for the venue, I always like the Punchline just better to eat before you get there.
Tough to do a bit when u are so hammered. Self pity took over. Not impressed. He called sf la, which was not cool, then choked on several jokes. No new material I didn't hear before. I liked Sarah, and the house opener, but Jonah was a let down. Sorry. Next time don't get too messed up before a show.
I would definitely recommend this show and venue to anyone. Venue - A+ Host - A++ Show A+ 1/2
I'd highly recommend seeing either one of these comedians to anyone. They both kept it pretty clean but hysterically funny. Constant giggles to outright laughter and no awkward sex jokes if you're on a first date. Bonus points for Foley who had local SF flair.
I believe my expectations were met: The venue was certainly adequate, the 2 drink minimum prices were reasonable, and the entertainment was 'entertaining'.
Nice room, great service, sufficient menu, well produced show. Only complaint, speakers on right of stage too loud for ringside seats...that said, a great show.
