As a first time attendee of the Sunken Lands Songwriter fundraiser for Johnny Cash's Boyhood Home, I was impressed with the hour of musical enlightened we were exposed to. The artists played and sang from the heartin what was an intimate setting at the college. Latest, at the fundraiser VIP afterparty, we were introduced to some surprising attendees who were very accessible. Sadly, too many guests seemed to swarm Roseanne Cash for selfish reasons while eating up so much time, so getting a picture taken is not a guarantee (I didn't get one). I wish she'd do a photo opportunity at the afterparty where she could snap and take photos without the signatures and conversations people tried to engage her in. Then, we'd all go away winners with a photo. Overall, a great event I look forward to attending in the future. I didn't read anywhere about attending the Fowler concert 90 minutes early for the food and pre-event snacks. We just came across it by chance while at Johnny's Boyhood Home. Finally, the day of the event, Johnny Cash's Boyhood Home closed at 11am. This prevented us and others who made the 45 minute drive to Dyess from Jonesboro unable to see his home. This early closure should be clearly stated in the event description, and on the Boyhood Home website will in advance. I never saw it until the day we arrived at 1pm and it was already closed. There were numerous others there as well.
Brandy Clark was outstanding. She killed it. I enjoyed the other performers also, but Brandy stole the show. I felt the show was a little short and that each performer should have done at least one more song. The reception event was very nice but would have been better with some tables and chairs.
Attended last year and this concert was fantastic. This year was not nearly as good as the first one. The difference was probably that Rodney Crowell was not there this year. Also, the performers seemed to be unprepared and the choice of songs was not very good. They needed to feature more familiar Roseanne Cash or Johnny Cash songs.
Just as advertised. Great down home music by good song writers . Great tribute to music of the area. Enjoyed immensely and went toward a great cause. The ‘orderves were great!
Superb artists in an intimate and comfortable venue. Pre-show complimentary heavy hors deouvres and bar, featuring Cash family recipes, was an unexpected delight. Rosanne, John Hiatt, Brandy Clark and John Leventhal played some of their best songs, choosing selections to create running themes between them. They ended the night singing spirituals together.
This was a fantastic show in a great venue top notch and very intimate. Rosanne Cash and the entire band were amazing great stories and songs
Roseanne was entertaining & the venue wonderful! Hope to see her and the band again
Already a Rosanne Cash fan, I left her terrific performance with her compelling husband and splendid admiring her even more. Seeing her at The Birchmere made the evening even better.
I believe Rosanne Cash's songwriting markedly improved over the past 15 years. Her last 2 albums are sublime. Truly wonderful. She's a poet with an angel's voice. Her earlier work I think is not world class, worth remembering. Specifically, her work from the '90s is pretty "meh." So, my disappointment is around their choice of songs. Also, Levanthal--one of the world's great guitarists--had an off night. But now I'm being picky because my expectations for him are high. i put him in the same league as David Gilmour & Mark Knofler.
