Rob Base in Concert
The year was 1988 and Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock had created a song called "It Takes Two," hoping that it'd become a regional hit. Little did they know, 30 years later the single would become part of the mainstream hip-hop canon on the strength of its distinct ability to instantly galvanize a crowd. Since DJ EZ Rock's passing in 2014, Rob Base carries on the pair's legacy as a solo act, and "It Takes Two" is always at the center of his shows. Base even performed the track at halftime of the 2017 NBA Finals Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. A long-standing part of the rotating lineup of the I Love The 90s Tour, featuring '90s hip-hop legends like Salt N' Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Coolio, Tone Loc, Young MC, All 4 One, Color Me Badd, Kid ‘n Play and fellow New Yorker Biz Markie, Base also joined Salt-N-Pepa for a hip-hop residency in Las Vegas. Immortalized in everything from the radio to the popular Jock Jams Vol. 1 album, "It Takes Two" still follows Base everywhere and the rapper is proud of that. "The song got real big and other rappers would say, ‘You sold out,'" Base told Rolling Stone in 2014. "At the time, we were really hurt by that, but 25 years later, it's still going strong. It's one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever made. That's just a fact."?
Rob Base Background
Harlem's Rob Base (Robert Ginyard) and DJ EZ Rock (Rodney "Skip" Bryce) met in the fourth grade and instantly became inseparable. The class clowns soon discovered hip-hop by watching rap crews perform in the park, and formed their crew in 1985. Their 1988 debut album, It Takes Two went seven times platinum and featured four charting singles, including the title track, plus "Get On," "Joy and Pain" and "Turn It Out (Go Base)." DJ EZ Rock passed away of complications from diabetes in 2014, and Rob Base continues to perform their songs as a solo act.?

Best experience ever my friend and I had a great time
Needed better sound system was really hard to understand
Got on stage with Tone Loc... Everyone was amazing.
Seen Rob Base and many others at Seaside this past August. Rob Base is the reason I went. I love all of the artists who were there tho. Definitely looking forward to going to another concert again!
I loved the show, but as I keep saying at all the concerts, why can't you put on a show with only Freestyle artists, there are certainly enough of them. Have a separate Old School concert.
First...the DJ was just ok..not off the charts great.. Lots of time in between each performer and then a half hour intermission. Sound system could've been better. Our seats were in the first section right by the stage and still couldn't always understand what the acts were saying. If I didn't love this music I wouldn't tell someone else to go.... Maybe ticketmaster needs to lower the prices because the event was only half way full. Over all I enjoyed the show.
I don't know if I should blame the venue itself but I got in the door by 8PM which was supposed to be the start of the show and Rob Base was like finishing out his set with It takes 2 by the time I got to my seat. Perhaps the Santander Arena needs to install Metal Detectors that you walk through or what TSA use at Airports, because the individual wand on every single person thru the door was a major hold up and I practically missed the one dude I really wanted to see at this show. After a very tight Rob Base came Biz Markie, a dude famous for the song "Just a friend" when he was beat boxing he was cool, the few other raps he did were just as cool, but attempting to sing..Bro ! Hang it up..If you are trying to be funny..OK but he was trying to be legit and it was awful. Also too much boasting to the audience. After the Biz, 2 DJ's came out and did 20 Min Throw Down. Which was cool but as a fellow patron remarked I didn't spend good money to see a DJ Scratch throw down..what was meant to ramp up the crowd for the headliners got to be Boring, Until Local Boy DJ Johnny V from Reading and currently at Power 99 FM got some girls to come up onstage and do a percolator dance off. Apparently Naughty by Nature and Salt N Peppa weren't in the house till 9 PM. When Naughty by Nature came out they were tight, they played with the crowd, Treach took his shirt off to show off his abs and shared his drink with someone on their birthday. They played some new stuff, they did other peoples material, they did an ode to lost heroes of Hip Hop and they played their hits..Seriously I'd make a point to see these guys solo. They still got it 25 years later. After them Salt N Peppa..Surprisingly people actually left before they came out. They boasted too much, changed their lyrics, changed the tempos of some songs, and Spinderella did a DJ solo of Guns and Rose & Nirvana which seemed oft putting for a Old School Hip Hop show. They ended their set with a Kirk Franklin rap Gospel.
The show was great !! I loved naughty by nature !!
Rob Base only did like 2 songs, and then Biz Markie took the stage. I was waiting for some beat boxing and instead he mumble a lot of words that no one could understand. He did "just a friend" but also covered Michael Jackson which sounded more like a mockery than a tribute. The man just needs to retire or beat box from a studio somewhere. Naughty by Nature were energetic as were Salt N Pepa. Both kicked it old school little and did some covers, or as I should say, we had a sing along to some old school stuff. The DJ from Power 99 FM was one of the best features. Great music and great crowd hype. Even some fun crowd participation.
