Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.? Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame. Still, her music is always evolving, channeling? influences like Chopin, Janis Joplin, to experimenting with unusual instruments and vocal styles, Regina never ceases to surprise.
After a number of self-funded and distributed albums, she finally got her first proper release in 2004 when Warner Brothers re-released her 2003 self-released album Soviet Kitsch. She released the highly anticipated follow-up album, Begin To Hope, in 2006. The single from the album, "Fidelity", was a big hit and helped the album peak at number 20 in the US Billboard chart. Her fifth full album, Titled Far, was a smash hit, it entered the US charts at number three and raised Regina's profile worldwide. In 2010 she performed at President Obama's reception at the White House. Her latest album, titled What We Saw from the Cheap Seats also entered the US album chart at number three.
Regina first toured nationally with The Strokes and this was quickly followed by a tour supporting The Kings of Leon, where she played in front of many famous venues at max capacity, like the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. A series of headline theater shows followed the release of the album Far and in recent years she has made frequent appearances during the European Summer Festival season. Away from music, Regina does a great deal of work for human rights charities and has raised money for Doctors Without Borders helping earthquake victims.
Another beautiful concert. She’s so incredibly talented!
The summer that "Begin to Hope"was released, my sister introduced our whole family to the album and we listened to it over and over again on a family trip. Eighteen years later, I am amazed that Regina Spektor's voice sounds exactly the same in concert as it did on that album. Her set in Boston was exquisite (notwithstanding a small fumble on guitar). She stunned me with the tightly controlled power she channeled in the one song she performed on electric keyboard and hand percussion, and transported me with her virtuosity on piano. She concisely conveyed her quirky stage presence with short comments in between a few songs, but for the most part filled our ears with music as she deftly moved from one emotional register to another in a satisfyingly varied set. She took a request from the audience and disclaimed playfully, "I haven't practiced it in a while, so blame that guy,"before proceeding to ace a technically strenuous piece. A few songs before closing her set, she included a gorgeous rendition of the prayer "Avinu Malkeinu", the Jewish tradition's quintessential liturgical expression of humble communal repentance, which she dedicated "with love and hope, to everyone in the world."
Easy to use and transfer tickets Thanks for the upgrde
Regina is one of the few artists that actually sounds better live. She gets right to the music. I was so happy to finally hear her perform some of her older songs that I’ve never heard her sing live before. I think this was my 4th time seeing her and she just gets better and better each time.
This was about the tenth time I've seen Regina and she always delivers. Her performance was flawless and she interacted well with the fans. She ever made a joke when a cell phone rang during the show. If you get a chance to see her, do so..
Regina is an entertainer like no other. I saw her back in 2007 at Virgin fest and was super impressed. This concert at the Baltimore Lyric will always be remembered as my favorite. I had never been to the Lyric before so I had no idea what to expect with seating. I bought inexpensive seats since we are seeing quite a few bands this summer. When we got to the door we were upgraded to the best seats in the house. I have been upgraded at concerts before but not like this. To see and hear Regina up close was like nothing I can explain. Her piano skills and voice brought tears to my eyes. She is such a lovely person just like I thought. I have such a beautiful memory to share with my husband and 15year old son.
Regina Spektor gave an excellent performance. The lights and production provided great immersion, while her music skills and vocals were also fantastic. Spektor herself was engaging with the crowd and did a great job of playing her music as it sounded on the album. Great concert.
She seemed very distracted, forgot words more that usual, commented on things off stage - that we couldn't see and didn't need to know about. And didn't care. The lighting was beautiful but they were migraine triggering spotlights that blasted directly in the faces of the audience. All in all, not a great evening.
Great show Her voice was stunning, and she was just as quirky and fun as she is on her albums.
She is so good. Good singer, musician and person. Singing and playing were very well.
