Patty Griffin Tickets

This show seemed a bit tough for Ms Griffin due to the last minute reality of performing solo for the first time in many years. Although the beauty of her voice and soul came through, as always, her efforts to fill most songs with a single instrument had its effect. I hope that her 2nd night’s performance in Alexandria brought Patty more gratification. I came away from the show with firm belief that Patty’s recently written songs and her past voluminous work is deserving of a band the size of her earlier career. Her gifted skill of orchestrating a mid to large band throughout her career served to illuminate her heartfelt lyrics, melodies and beautiful voice & soul. When a truly remarkable career is presented on stage with a well balanced and managed group of musicians, the occasional voice cracks of a seasoned performer becomes a badge of honor. I understand the high costs that larger bands bring, especially in these inflationary times. However, you, Patty are worthy of a much higher ticket price than what has been recently set. I believe your fans would have absolutely no problem accepting that reality. I certainly wouldn’t. Please, Patty, let the full beauty of your works ring full. Bless you.

I wasn’t going to leave this until I read several reviews from 2023 which used words like disappointing, off key, left early, not herself. All of that applies to the show we saw at the Birchmere. It was painful and we left after three or four songs. I got the tickets as a gift and can’t say I’m a fan. Maybe she had a good voice at one time but sadly she doesn’t have one now.

I was really disappointed with this show. I have seen Patty Griffin many times before (at Birchmere) and she did not have the vocal range or strong voice she had in the past. A couple of songs, Patty introduced that she had not played them in a long time and it showed. Also, the tickets were $75 each and she only played for 1 hour and 15 min. Disappointing all around.

I felt embarrassed listening to Patty. She couldn’t hold the pitch and the songs were all over the place. I was really excited to see her, not sure if there was some medical issues or if the monitor wasn’t working right, although it was just her and the guitar so it shouldn’t be difficult to hear. Anyway it was a rough performance.

It was a wonderful performance, and her guitarist was amazing too! It was just a lovely experience!

Loved every minute of the show. I found it funny that I was probably the only person in the audience who had ever been to Old Town, Maine and actually spent a great deal of time there when I was married to an Old Town, Maine girl. Love you, Patty! So happy I could attend your performance.

I LOVE Patty Griffin! Well I guess I should say, I LOVE her classic stuff. I am not a fan of the music I heard at her most recent concert. She's an amazing singer/songwriter with so many talents....this just wasn't my jam.

I went to this show because every song I've ever heard of hers sounds great, I was thinking it would be a sure thing, a terrific show. Humm. First, the band was great, the percussion especially was terrific. It was a very mellow show overall. The bummer was Patty's vocals... Well, she did say she had been sick... Her voice was off key and not very strong to me & not till very late in the show did she seem to sound better (I heard a patron nearby say, 'her voice sounds good on this one', so I surmise they were hearing what I was). The song I love most of hers, 'Heavenly Day' was wrecked to me, she was very weak on the vocals. The crowd was so sparse too, with many seats either unsold or no shows. Maybe word got out that Patty was not on her game. Many people also left early. To add frustration, there were some very loud (drunk?) girls who wooted & hollered like this was a big rock show. The overall demographic was older, so this was extremely unusual (especially for such a subdued show). It seemed wildly inappropriate for the style & vibe of the show (not to mention undeserving - to me). I was very disappointed in the performance & can't remember the last time I actually wanted to leave a live show. Alas, my partner didn't hear what I did & we stayed. Perhaps others enjoyed it too, it's just a matter of taste & what appeals to people.

* the asterisk is for the opener. Hayes Carll. He is the reason we attended the concert and he most certainly did NOT disappoint. Patty on the other hand was not at all good. Her voice was too large for the venue. The way she mumbled through the lyrics was garbled and difficult (if I'm being polite) to understand. There were a few instances where one could tell she was going to get political - but thought better of it. The music was confusing. It seemed as if the trio were on the same page - but on different sentences. Or paragraphs, at times. After 4 songs, we could not stand it anymore and had to exit. We were NOT alone. I witnessed 4 people leaving after the 3rd song. 4th song Patty was on the piano. We left after that song. We witnessed at least 40 people exiting with us. Bring back Hayes. The cost of the ticket was well woth his set. Thank you.

I’m a long-time fan of PG and have heard her before in concert, during the Downtown Church tour. She was amazing then. The concert on Oct 29, 2023 at the Moore Theater was a disaster. The drummer and guitarist were tight and amazing. But Patty’s vocals were about a half-step or more off key. My wife and I only made it through 4 songs because it was so painful to listen to. Patty mentioned she had a cold, so maybe she just couldn’t hear herself? I wanted so much to hang in there and have it get better, but just couldn’t. Hoping Patty is okay and that this was just a blip.
